Are you sure that each sensor is spotlessly clean?

Are you also sure that the sensors have not been aftermarket painted?

Both this and the dirt described above can cause malfunction.

A constant beep on these Pdc systems usually indicates a fault with 1 or more of the sensors. It only takes 1 sensor to be faulty & the whole system will shut down.(rear & front if fitted).A simple (but not conclusive )test is to engage reverse gear with ignition on ,but ENGINE OFF,& carefully put your ear to each sensor in turn.A working sensor will emit a faint "crackle".

Don't know what "waves" your sensors transmit, but for things like remote controls, if you view it through a digital camera (even one on your phone) you can see a white light when it is operational.

Don't know if that will help you any though?

That works with infrared (light). PDC uses ultrasound.

PDC stopped working on my 320d E46 Touring. I was told that there's a connection behind the rear bumper which gets corroded but haven't checked this out myself to confirm - does anyone know if this is true.

Also can the PDC be turned off/on as required on 320d E46? Can't find anything in the manual.
