Anyone any ideas as to what to check with the ABS light staying on on my 1998 Seat Alhambra 1.9 TDI?
Or even any good garages in SW/W London
MOT's coming up soon and I know that it's a failure.

Does it come on as soon as you start the car, or only after you're driving it?

It comes on as soon as I turn the ignition on and then stays on.

More than not a faulty abs sensor on one the wheels common fault ,finding which wheel is the hard bit.Sometimes disconnecting it will clear the problem and give you the correct sensor to change but I am sure someone with more knowledge on the subject will enlighten you.

I think that they are passive sensors on this age of car, in which case you can check the resistances of the sensors with a hand held meter. Consider getting / borrowing vag-com.
If it is a sensor you might have a problem getting it out, they are supposedly push fit, pull remove.

I've had the on board computer interrogated by someone recommended on this web site, seems it's the left front wheel sensor. I tried gently to get it out but it didn't want to budge. I'll get a new one and then use a bit more force
