The cost of replacing a main-beam headlight bulb on a Renault Espace Privilege is £196.30 for the bulb and a further £22 for the fitting.
This price to me seems totally unbelievable and I was wondering if anybody on the forum can surpass this appalling rip off ????

If its got Xenon gas discharge headlamps then the price is about right - they are very expensive.
If it just uses a standard bulb then you've been had.

This is outrageouse although £22 is a cracking labour charge- most dealers charge £40ph
|
Depends on what is involved in changing the bulb - there is one car (Audi?) where the front bumper has to come off, I believe. £40 an hour is cheap for labour anywhere in the coubtry SFAIK. Many main dealers are over £80/hour; you might find £40 at an independent but not at a franchised dealer.

Just to redress the balence re. dealers & garages, my local establishment recently apologised for putting up their labour charge to £28 ph; they are also flexible over their timing, I've been charged an hours labour for jobs which I know take longer; i.e replacement of two front metal brake pipes. ( also 'friendly' re MOT's )
I will have to keep their location secret, apart from county, ( Norfolk ) as with limited space and staff they are innundated with work, I had to make a MOT appointment for the Volvo 10 days in advance!

nice to know that some decent and honest garages still exist.

£40ph is at my local independent garadge (Good honest service)
I gave up paying dealers rip off prices yet still receving poor service.

I can't believe that a bulb could cost so much! Thanks heavens for the cheap as chips halogens.
At my local VAG specialist, labour is in the region of £24 an hour which probably explains why my car is having a service, MOT and coolant change for considerably less than one poxy bulb.
