99 Vectra aircon died - Mapmaker
For several months now, when the aircon has been turned on there has been a gentle gurgle just to begin - for maybe 5-10 seconds.

Now, the air that blows out is not cold, and the gurgling is unceasing.

Any ideas?

TIA

Sounds suspiciously like there's no gas in there.

Does the light still come on in the switch, and does the compressor run when switched on?

Thanks.

Yes, DD, the light comes on and I presume the compressor runs - there is a whirring noise, plus the aforementioned gurgling.

If it needs regassing and the time has come for regassing after 6 years, then I can live with that. Grrr.

Sounds suspiciously like there is insufficient refrigerant in the system. Aircon systems have a low pressure switch which should prevent the system from working, but if the switch is disconnected or failed then it could still work with low fluid level. Given the age of the car I would suggest a re-gas is in order anyway.

You need to go to an aircon specialist who can test the system for you properly. The only other real alternative is to switch it off and never use it again. Apart from spanner work and simple checks aircon is not a DIY proposition.

I had a '98 Vectra that suddenly dumped it's gas, was not too expensive to fix and re-gas, in your case it might just be that the gas pressure is low.
