Hi,
On my travels today i spotted this car at a small local garage,50,000 miles,1 owner and the same garage has done all the servicing also it comes with new cambelt and 12 months parts and labour warranty.
Ren megane scenic 1.6 rxe, 1999 v reg £4995
If RXE IIRC it's the 8v, fine engine in the Clio though underpowered in a loaded Scenic, good buy though at nearer £3.5k.
Agree with Cheddar. Fairly pricey for what it is.

Hi,
It's 1.6 16v and my thoughts are it's a bit pricey but i've delt with this garage before and they give you 1 years warranty and have a good reputation for not shirking out when you claim on the warranty.
Are you sure it is 16v, is it the facelift model? If you are happy with it why not offer £4k?
On a V plate it should be the Mk1 Facelift model and hence the 16v. (agreed there are a few V plate non facelifts about but not many)
Its a bit overpriced but not much, and they will ne able to sell it on very near the price they want.
Really? Is that the fact simply because it's got low miles on or is that the price these command in general?

Its a popular second hand buy with young families at that price point. Have a quick think and try to recall how many garges you see with the Scenics (or Picassos) hanging around on the forecourt not sold?
That's true. Oddly enough, at the local(ish) Renault garage, I never see any but see loads of Clios and Modus'...Moduses...Modi?

Thought the facelifts were Alize etc as opposed to RXE?
Alize etc and other "specials" were available pre facelift as well.

That is not the point, rather the other way around, RXE's were not available post facelift IIRC. So if it is an RXE it must be an 8v?
you IIRC wrongly
RXE and alize were availble pre facelift, and post facelift.
some 8 -12 months after facelift they were shuffled into "collections"

Tread carefully, friend bought a 1.6 16v scenic only for it to need a complete cambelt change 2 weeks after he bought it. The garage a carsupermarket in Devons capital city had exhanged the belt for a non standard Renault item and fitted nylon pulleys, and ignored the tensioners.
The result was a complete set of belts and proper pulleys and new tensioners(which had not been changed).Don't know if this is the garage you are talking about but beware. PS the dealer did pick up the bill.

I doubt if it would make £2000 at auction may even be lucky to make £1000 nobody wants second hand french cars especially renaults that old.
Let me know what auction it is where 5 year old scenics go for 1-2k please. I need a source of money since the rainbow disappeared.
Also can you send me some of what you are smoking?
Andy, comments like that really really make me want to try out the swear filter!!
Utter nonsense you talk.
The only scenics around at that price range in auction are 97/98 low spec sheds
Hi, Thanks for the advice.
I wonder where some people get there prices from i've just checked out the price with glass's guide and it's come up with £4540 retail i've also spent the last week going to auctions at bridgwater and manheim bristol only to find the stuff that was selling was super high mileage.
Re the cambelt it's not at the car supermarket your thinking of it's a tiny family garage near the sea and i've purchased from them before and they do prepare there cars well and do give 1 years warranty (and don't shirk out of it if you claim) also there a renault dealer. The car was purchased from them new has full service history and they've done all the servicing.
At 50k, if you get the cam belt changed, and a years good warranty, whilst at the top of its price range its probably a good buy
Many thanks, going to go for a test drive and haggle.
It seems whenever you ask for a value people always say you can get it cheaper but when you ask them where very few can back it up.

Not nonsense try Leeds Central motor auction Hunslet, look at an upto date Glasses and I am about spot on,I was only trying to show how much profit the retailer will have in the motor so as to help the haggling. And remember if you were to trade that car in thats what you are going to get.I will say it again as sales figures will show nobody wants second hand French cars that old,Jap,German,Swedish yes

3K trade does make 5K retail a bit steep (nice for the dealer though!) As stated elsewhere make an offer, screen prices usually has £500 allowance (not supermarkets though) that you can have either have as cash (no px)discount or they add it on to the real px price to give you a feel good factor. And the dealer may get lucky and someone will pay the sticker price without negotiating. As previous poster said try opening offer of £4K, dealer will refuse but keep going and may get it for around £4400. good luck
Glasses can say what it likes, Try and find the one specified on the dealers lot.
Just look on auto trader link on this site 99 to 2000 £2.2 to £3k retail theres loads of them
I did, wasnt exactly drowning in them in a 100 mile radius of my place, and they were sheds.
I did see plenty of 50k ones in good nick about the 4k mark.
Near me, the first page of Scenics with a maximum mileage of 50,000 and a price range of 2,000 to 3,000 has the newest one at S reg.
The same data but 4,000 to 6,000 turns up loads of V and W platers and even a few T plates too.
So around here, they have quite a high value.

Try a Leeds Or Bradford post code

But I don't live in Leeds or Bradford. Neither does Egor.

The Uuk is not exactly a big place especially if you are saving money by a bit of travelling

This is always one of these difficult ones of how much do you pay for peace of mind? If he has previous experience of the dealer, can trust them implicitly to correct anything that is wrong and has a full service record with them, then I would suggest that is peace of mind worth having. The question is how much do you pay for that?
If you got one for a grand less that turned out to have dodgy mileage (remember these are electronic displays and easily "adjusted"), or maybe one of the belts went, then you would very quickly end up out of pocket.
I suppose the same argument applies to those who buy a brand new car every 3 years once their previous one is out of warranty.
Hi,
The glass's guide price your giving is trade i checked glass's online this morning and the franchised dealer retail price is £4180 and the c.a.p price was pretty similar aswell.
Yes, that's right egor
I said 3K trade................so 4K1 about right for retail
ie - try not to pay 5K as per sticker price, offer lower/haggle hard
Hi,
Went to test drive it was given the keys and told to go for a good test drive and stop somwhere for lunch! no dealer came with us just let us get on with it no hassel no fuss.
Anyway wipers all work, clutch is ok,sunroofs don't leak (tested with use of jet washer in a garage)i couldn't find anything to use whilst haggling.
We purchased a 4x4 from this garage 5 years ago and the salesman remembered what my job was and where we lived(or used to live)!
Anyway managed to get it for £4000 with 1 years warranty (the garage does all the work)new mot/cambelt 6 months tax and full tank of petrol.
Well done, sounds like a good car from a good garage. Think you should name them here.
Well done Egor. We had a 1998 1.6 Alize which served us faithfully for 5 years and 80k. Never missed a beat.
congrats. Had a 1999 alize for 4 years, family loved it
It's amazing how many pockets and cupboards are on this car, everytime you have a nose about you find another (just found the litre bottle holder in the back) now i'm trying to find a dog cage/guard to fit.
egor? they are 2Litre bottle holders. A 1 litre bottle will disapear.
