New Lex IS200 - Vincent de Marco
The 3-series is ugly and noisy at motorway speeds... C-class too old and Audi's A4 not too good value for money.
So we're all waiting for the new Lex IS200, aren't we?
I hope this time around it'll come with dual climate control and better ride - just recently a friend of mine gave me a lift in his current shape version on standard 205/55 R16 and guess what ? Much more quiet than my current shape Corolla 1.6, that's for sure, but way too firm & bumpy. Too firm, in fact.
I think an air suspension would be nice, as an optional extra, naturally.

Think the new one is called IS 250.read a road test and sounded very good, better than the beemer.

Did he have the Sport (slightly lowered) version? The SE is a softer ride.

The air suspension on the (top) Lexus LS model is wondrous, it's true, but a killer if it needs attention - the units are £2500 per corner to replace.

I can't wait.

We all know that, it just flies, despite its 17" wheels and even bigger 245/45 R18 wheels in the facelifted model.

I picked up a brochure when I took my IS200 Sport in for its 40k service. From the pictures it appears to have dual climate control, buttons on the steering wheel to control radio etc (at last!) and a juicy fat "Start" button on the dash. It looks great and I can't wait for the invite to test one. The diesel appears to have some trick handling electronic system on it (why not the petrol?). Other options I remember are cooled seats in addition to heated seats, keyless entry, touch screen sat nat (at last!), MP3/WMA compatible stereo and a Mark Levinson option.

Release is Nov 05 for the IS250 V6 (204 bhp 250Nm torque) and early '06 for the 2.2 4 cyl in line diesel (177bhp, 400Nm torque).

I remember taking some friends out in my IS and the back seat passengers said the ride was "rather firm". I've only ever been a passenger in an SE and that was 6 years ago so I can't comment on any difference in ride quality.

I'm not waiting for the new IS200 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In all my years of driving company cars, mostly BMW/VW or Audi for the last few, the IS200 I had as a company car for 18 months spent BY A LARGE MARGIN the most time off the road out of all of them.

Maybe the new IS200 is better but the old one was way over-rated. It was slow, very thirsty if you wanted to extract any sort of performance and mechanically troublesome, ie complete gearbox rebuild after 40,000 miles, completely new clutch assembly due to extreme judder after 30,000 ish miles, and all of the wheels replaced under warranty as the others were corroding after 18 months !

I drive an Audi now, and do you know what, you get what you pay for !
