97 Mondeo TD Problems - marty69
Hi

Unfortunately i am not very technically minded when i comes to cars , and all of a sudden i have two problems that have arisen with my car, First my interior dashboard lights have gone, and also my rear lights too ( headlights are still working ) anyone know what it might be, fuse maybe ?
Also at the same time, all of a sudden when i change gear at around 2 - 3000 rpm the rev counter shoots up for a second and the car lurches forward a little, what the hell is that all about.
Does anyone out there have any advice for me on these two things, ( and if they're related. )

Thanks

Re: Your lights problem. If your side lights aren't working either (you didn't mention it) then more than likely it's a fuse blown if your rear lights and dash lights aren't working.

No idea of second problem.

Check fuses for your lights fault or could be a burnt/overheated pin connection to the main lighting rotary switch. The second problem could be the clutch slipping.

Checked the fuses and all are fine, how would i check for a burnt/overheated pin connection ?
Also if the clutch is slipping, any idea how much a new clutch would be ?

Are your sidelights working at all?

Rev counter goes up while changing gear? Perhaps the throttle sticking a little, so when pedal is released, and clutch pedal pressed, the throttle might be slightly open?

new clutch is big job on Mondeo: ring specialists but no change from £500?

Yeah the sidelights are working, i don't know if thats significant or not.
With regards to the other point, now i think about it when the revs do shoot up as i change gear, the accelerator pedal doesnt travel all the way back up so maybe the throttle is sticking, if thats the case any idea on cost.

It could have been if they're on the same circuit as the dash and rear lights.

Throttle cable goes direct from pedal to pump-so can only be cable or pedal;disconnect cable from pump and check that it works freely-also check cable run,it may have got caught the wrong side of some component.

So if sidelights are working but the rest isnt, and its not the fuse then what can i do to sort it, would it be something i could do myself or is it a job for a pro.

Ok well a throttle cable is a lot better alternative than a new clutch, i hope it is.
