Auction - Log Book Not Present - JohnG66
Is this a straight forward problem to sort out and why would'nt it be present ?

It just involves filling in a form, sending it to the DVLA and waiting for them to send you a new logbook. Could take days ro weeks.

You can't tax the car until you get the logbook so it can't be used on the road until then. You will either need to get it trailered away from the auction or need some trade plates.

As to hwy it isn't there, it could be a repo, or the previous owner or the seller (if its come in in part ex) could have lost it.

Thats not quite correct(but I will stand corrected) you can use the car as soon as you leave the tax office or post office with the new tax disc ,You do not need the log as long as you have the mot and insurance certificate. It took took 2 months for my log to come but I taxed it on the first day of ownership.

Are you sure about this?

Our local post office will not give tax disc unless you have the MOT+Insurance+ either DVLA letter advising us that the time is up to get a new disc or the V5.

Now that is a very long time indeed. I have always had mine within 2 weeks.

1.Because the book is with the leasing company and the car was recovered from the customer and end of lease.
2.Its been lost.
3.Its a HP dept recovery.
4.Car was on a private plate and the paper work is at the DVLA being changed to its original plate.(every time a private plate is added or removed it appears as an additional owner)

It is straight forward to get a new one when you go to tax the car at the post office.

It will cost you 19 quid for a log book if you don't have the green slip. Unless it's a class C writeoff.

You can't tax it at a post office without a reminder or a logbook

If I do not have a V5, V5C, V5/2 or V5C/2

The law requires the keeper to hand over the V5, V5C, V5/2 or V5C/2 when selling a vehicle.

If you have just acquired the vehicle and neither of the Documents/Certificates are available, you cannot license your vehicle at any Post Office® branch using a V10 accompanied by a V62. You must first obtain a V5C using form V62 (fee applicable).

Please Note: The Registration Certificate will be issued in 4 weeks. However please allow 6 weeks before making enquiries.

Bought a car from auction last week 'Log Book Not Present'.
Selling lease co forwarded V5 to the auction house who forwarded the green slip to me arriving on Saturday.
I guess it will depend how efficient the seller & auction house is at processing the paper work.

A few weeks back I went to Blackbushe to see a 34k late 03 Vectra Elite 3.2, no log book present.

It went for £7k - wish I'd bid.

I suspect the dealers are less interested due to the log book hassle...?
