Just a 'heads up'. The tv prog where Mike Brewer buys a car for Ed China to sell is back tonight, 9pm on Discovery Realtime.
Projects include a Porsche 928 and a Lancia Delta.

I was wondering if it was a new series or not. I see tonight's is about a Mazda MX5. Couldn't recall them doing that one before.

According to the trailers it is a brand new series.

Ah yes Mike Brewer. I remember many moons ago when he use to do Deals On Wheels with a chap called Richard Sutton. On channel 4 as I remember.

It was a 1990 MX5 last night. Bought for £1600. Replaced part of 'A' pillar, replaced roof vinyl, seats and carpets (damaged due to leaking roof), wheels (15 inch replaced 14 inch), added chrome bits on the interior, sill protectors and a front grill, added torsion beams to underside to improve stability. No mechanical work done whatsoever. I think it sold for nearly 3 grand which for a 15 year old car seemed steep to me.

But if you look at it as £3000 for some reliable, waterproof summer fun, then it's not such a bad deal.

I watched last nights programm ,it was a little bit to scripted to be for real for one would you by a car without a new mot the end buyer did and where was the road excise disc.It was obvisouly all done with actors and a car bought at auction or some garages trade in.Nethertheless it was still quite entertaining

He also fitted an induction kit. Unfortunately at no time was it mentioned that adding bits and changing wheels etc could affect the insurance situation.

Replaced seats and carpets (damaged due to leaking roof),

Apart from the lack of programme continuity - Ed China first said the replacement seats and carpets came to £155 (seats @ £120, front carpet @ £20 and rear carpet @ £15), only for Mike Brewer to later say that they came to £135, surely it would have been better just to have hired a vax machine and given them a cleaning and saved the money in the first place?

and tuning spelt "tunning" whatever that is...

Especially as they never include the cost of any labour (even notional) in their costs and therefore always inflate the net profit. Still fun to watch!

Though I still enjoyed the programme, one thing is driving me mad, Mike Brewer seems incapable of driving a car without 'whoo hooing' several times. Suspect it indicates a lack of vocabulary on his part...

He does exactly the same thing presenting Pulling Power with Mike Rutherford.

Pulling power - saw it and thought it was very boring!

C'mon guys! yes is is a bit staged but it's still quite watchable and you have to admit that Ed China's a clever bloke! Brewers wide boy selling tactics are funny and could be useful too if you're selling a car of your own.

I noticed on the credits that there was a mechanic (not Ed) was named. Perhaps Ed is not as talented as the edited version we see makes out.

He certainly specialises is rattle-can lash up paint jobs though! He must be good if he can get a proper finish using them on large areas like the Porsche door he did in the last series.

Didn't quite work out so well on the Capri wings though.

Well i still think Ed's a talented bloke..

One thing that struck me is that no dealer worth his salt would buy a car out of auto trader,he paid £800 to much at what this motor would have brought at auction. It would be much more interesting if he was to do a program for real.
