The TDCi in the original Focus was such a good engine it seems Ford has just plonked it in the new one when it's not really necessary due to the 1.6 being only slightly lower in output.
The TDCi in the old Focus was great even though it was based on the old 1.8 diesel as fittred to Mondeo Mk 1 etc. The 1.6 and 2.0 TDCi engines in the new Focus are a joint venture with PSA and are therefore totally different from previously, that being said in performance and economy terms they are not a great leap forward, also the 1ld 1.8 115 was very crisp revving. Meeting Euro IV emissions may have been a problem though.

Hope it gives you long pleasurable service.
"more predictable in the wet."
That's part of the fun, a little bit lacking in latter BMW constrained by DSC and all that...

My son has had the same TDCI model (03) for about a year but in blue and still drools over its performance, ride and handling; it followed a 1.4 Zetec engined Fiesta.
Amazingly the three-door versions were very hard to find and he spent several weeks on the Internet hunting for one before finally succeeding.
It meant a round trip of about 300 miles to go and see it at the dealership concerned, but he (and I) came back in it....:-)

Just out of interest where in Shropshire did you get it from?
|
It was a private sale in Telford, there are so few of these things about that I had to be pretty open minded about how far I was prepared to travel! :-)
Stuart - Funnily enough, the last Ford that I owned was a 1.4 Fiesta Zetec too, if I don't count the Mondeo that I ran for a few weeks or the awful Fusion that I had as a company car so wasn't really mine anyway, and certainly wasn't my choice!
The one thing I do remember from when I sold Fords was that a 3 door Focus TDCi was quite uncommon, and so were 3 door black Foci of any model, so I figure that by buying a 3 door, black, TDCi with a desireable trim level, I should have no bother selling it much further down the line.
I'm hoping for long service from it, my biggest horror is that when it eventually does need replacing, there isn't going to be anything to replace it with. There is no comparable new Focus, and I don't like the new Astra so much. I think I'm just going to have to make sure that it lasts a long, long time!

I know it's off the subject, but what exactly was so awful about the Fusion you had?

>or the awful Fusion >> that I had as a company car I know it's off the subject, but what exactly was so awful about the Fusion you had?
It looked awful and was quite wallowy, very practical car for a specific demographic I suppose, but it certainly isn't built with 20 year old customers in mind!
Although it was a 1.6 so quite nippy in a straight line, and I did take it up a very bad track once and onto a grassed area to test out it's higher ground clearance, it certainly seemed to work!

Yes, that was the point I also made - I was very surprised at the time that they seemed as rare as hens' teeth...:-)
The one he got was a Ford Direct example from a small Leicstershire dealership that advertises on the Internet.

Thanks, hope you have broadband, the battery was dying and I didn't have time to mess about with the quality, have a funny feeling I may have taken them at 5.0 megapixel. :-)
Just going to transfer them across to the PC now...

Uh - oh.

I have just realised that partly because I'm an idiot, and partly because I wasn't paying attention (but mostly because I'm an idiot), I've uploaded the photos to "People". I'll move them later on tonight - it's taken me long enough to upload them where they are!
Looks very nice though.

Can I just ask (while it is undoubtedly a great looking car), is the leather the same material you can find on the doors across the range?
|
Blue - that looks lovely. Enjoy!
What is the difference between the Zetec and Sport?

Espada III - well if you have a family and need a Lamborghini, what else do you drive?

Wow, Blue, that?s a top car for a full-time student. Enjoy it matey, you?ll have to beat the hot student chicks off with your dipstick.
|
Y2K - No, the car has actual real leather from real cows, not that plasticky stuff they usually stick on the doors! :-)
The difference between a TDCi Zetec and a sport probably aren't theat great but basically they are:-
Even firmer (and I mean much firmer) sports suspension that the Zetec
Half leather seats that I think are slightly more "buckety" than the Zetec
17" Alloys instead of 15"
ST170 front bumper (notice the fog lights?)
I suppose that's probably about it, but it makes for a totally different package from the Zetec, it's cosmetically different from the outside and it drives totally different due to the suspension. I've got to be honest the suspension borders on too hard for normal driving, just like it is in the ST170, but at least it's more fun to drive like that!

This is an original Focus, I didn't even realise that Ford had re-introduced the 1.8, I thought it was now discontinued.
For anyone who doesn't know, the TDCi Sport was a rare (well, relatively rare for a Ford at least!) model that they only produced relatively low numbers of. (There are 10 for sale in the whole country at present on Autotrader)
It's essentially a Focus Zetec but with:-
Firmer, sportier suspension
17" Alloys
Half leather sports interior (with power driver's seat height adjust)
ST170 front spotlamps
They're so uncommon on the whole that there are dealers who don't even know it exists and the guy who sold it to me said that he had a phone call or two where the buyers had asked him if it was an import and then refused to believe him when he said it was a UK car on the grounds that they've never heard of such a model. Well, all I can say is their loss is my gain... :-)
