A nerd first - posting from the meet!!!
decent turnout', photos to follow...

Well we made it!
Lee (aka Citroenian) sent the above post from his electronic thingy whilst sitting at the bar in TGI Fridays. In addition there was Borasport, Adski, Blue Haddock and yours truly.
Adam's car isn't that bad...but the plastic fake wood dash is worse than I imagined.
Borasport's camera was used by a pleasant serving wench in some wierd outfit and a photogrpah will no doubt appear somewhere on the web sometime soon.
PU - we missed you, but never mind, we'll have another one.
No bad behavior was recorded, and several pounds in weight were put with the sticky desserts eaten. Next time we're going to a real pub.

Espada III - well if you have a family and need a Lamborghini, what else do you drive?

Nice to meet everyone tonight - apologies for running off but I did manage to get to SWMBO before they turned off the lights at the Trafford Centre.
I'm all for a proper pub next time - pretty sure I still owe borasport a pint...
Thanks for organising this Espada...

Yep - big thanks to Espada for setting it all up.
Great to put faces to the names at long last.
Next time though, I'm buying!
Thanks guys,

"Being called sir by the waiter"
That'll be spelt "cur" then, won't it!
|
Sorry, mean't to add pleased that you all had a good time.

In that case i'll have the 32oz T-Bone then please!

I'm not sure about the second part, but as for the first part, we were discussing that in the car park as we left. There bust be somewhere where we can get a quiet half of decent beer, possibly have a short run in the country then get back for another decent half ?

Glad to hear you all had a jolly time. I would have come too, but you set on a Tuesday, which is my grey hair plucking night...
|
After you all had eaten that dessert, did they need to lift the table out vertically before you got out? :)
|
I'll put a limit on how much of my money you can spend next time!
When I got home, I had half a cheescake too ;-)
What did surprise me was how easy it was to get to or rather how quick it took me. I set out a little early expecting traffic and there was none so I took it easy on the way there and it didn't take me 25 minutes.
I'd definitely be up for another meet sometime. The more people the better.

Perhaps a little pre christmas drink perhaps?

Adam is nothing like what I had imagined him.
|
I'll take that as a compliment. I don't care what anyone says - I'm going to take it as a compliment.

Adam is nothing like what I had imagined him.
The same here - from now i'm not going to be able to read one of his posts without putting on a thick lancashire accent!
|
Given I grew up in Merseyside I'll find that quite amusing ;-)

Adam
|
Well it definately wasn't scouse!
|
I'm not actually sure it was the really Adski - sounded 100% woolyback to me
|
100% woolyback? I'd have said 70 - 75% tops.

He looks slightly like a youthful Peter Skellern, a singer and songwriter who is also a Lancastrian and is now a friend of mine. (Now retired from stage performing and recording, and living in Cornwall, in case anyone's interested!)
|
Having performed a Google search on Mr Skellern, all I can say is thanks Avant. Thanks awfully ;-)
I'm going to charge myself with finding a pub for the next meet. It'll be long, hard and no doubt testing at times but I'm prepared to do that for you all.

Interesting to hear after many years of Peter Skellern - his was a unique style, a very talented guy .. I always enjoyed his too occasional performances. Hope he's enjoying well earned retirement.

He is, very much, in a lovely part of Cornwall. He is a village church organist , like me, and has started composing for his choir - writing things that small amateur choirs like to sing. He's done two excellent workshops for the Royal School of Church Music in our area (Thames Valley). Agreed, a terrific talent.
Keeping this motoring-related, he drives a pukka Saab - a 9.5 diesel estate, but prefered his previous 9.3 petrol turbo.

You?re romantic, I?m a fool
You?re the teacher, I?ve come to school...

TO get back on topic...............
I have no idea what people thought I would be like when meeting me in the flesh. I hope I didn't let you down!
Yes, next time we need a better place to meet. Is there anywhere near Haydock, Warrington or Knutsford/Northwich (on the M6) that we can all get to easily from all parts of the North West and even Potteries.
I think this can be Adski's next task, should he choose to accept it.....
--
Espada III - well if you have a family and need a Lamborghini, what else do you drive?
|
I accept your task Espada but can tell you right now that there are no places whatsoever in Haydock. None!
I'll report back with my findings.

Somewhere around Lymm might be a good choice.

Hmmmm - good idea. Isn't there a pub with a big car park on the A50 to the east of J20 of the M6? There is of course Poplar 2000 at J20 itself.

Espada III - well if you have a family and need a Lamborghini, what else do you drive?
|
Why not bring the meet a little further down the A50? there are some lovely pubs around the Burslem area!
|
If people would give a firm commitment on attendance then a plan should be drawn up showing the hometown of those interested.
Draw a line between the northern and southern most, then eastern and western. A point somewhere in the middle would therefore be a suitable place?

You can put my name down for pretty much any meet providing it isn't on the Orkney Islands or anything like that.
As long as it's planned in advance (which it always would be anyway) then I at least (and a lot of other people) can create a free evening in the diary and get down there.
