I am need to park my car at Manchester Airport for 10 days in october, however I am wary of these off site take your keys compounds,as I do not want my car scratched etc.
I saw a well known compound yesterday there and well the cars were packed so tight it looked a nightmare--bumper to bumper and less than 12 inch door to door.
Has any one any recommendations or suggestions.
Thanks

There is an on-site long stay car park, but do not know how good it is. Look at the airport web site.

Also, there is a meet and greet service, where they meet you at the airport ands take you car away from you and deliver it back to you at the airport when you arrive. I can get the details if you want. A friend used it and was very happy with the service.

I had this same problem and could not find anywhere decent and ended up leaving the car at home and using the train! East Midlands Airport has an indoor parking area that is staffed around the clock and take liability for the vehicle.

If you do find any useful and safe parking areas at Manchester Airport then please post them as I want to know! I think that the general attitude of the North West people is that they do not care if thier vehicle is damaged at the airport which is a very sad reflection.

yes carl east mid is very good and also Birmingham-I may have to check the train times there, but I have heard so many problems!
Taxi costs £65 each way.
Like me you take pride in your car!

I've left cars in the main Manchester car park (the one just past the entrance to the Hilton Hotel and opposite the short stay car park and domestic terminal) many times without any mishaps in the past.

A regular free bus service is provided to take you to the terminals.

There's also a big airport car park (or at least used to be) if you turn left and left again coming from the M56 as you approach the first set of traffic lights and go past the Etrop Grange Hotel (which will be on your right) for about 200 yards.

Alternatively, if you decide to stay overnight for an early flight, some of the hotels will allow you to leave your car in their car park until you return.

Here's a map of the airport's layout:

Have you looked at stay in a hotel overnight and park for xx? days options??

I've used www.secureairport-parking.co.uk/ most recently. Very courteous and they provide a valeting service. They fully de-iced my car when I returned from holiday in December last year. If you want to park the car yourself you need to use the main airport on site car parks or a company such as Carminder.

Watch out for that one, there was a report in the paper not so long ago about someone coming back to his car, at a hotel near Manchester airport, only to find it being "bagged" i.e. being protected from the weather so that rain didn't enter through the broken windows. Guess how it got broken. There were, so the report said, about 5 other "bagged" cars in the car park.

I came back from Hawaii (honeymoon) many years ago and used the bus !

yes agree I stayed once at Express Holiday Inn,which is now called Bewleys--and saw some very strange charachers in the car park!
Hence i would not leave my car at a hotel for such a period.

Used the long stay here for two US Business trips. Convenient, close, and regular pick ups from Terminal 1 (if a tad more expensive). In fact the whole Manchester Airport experience is a very positive one compared to some (closer)ones I could mention.
Personally I don't care about the key issue. One less thing to leave in a hotel a continent away ! The parking bays were adequate as well.

Manchester Airport - and I've used most of the UK ones - is probably the best in the country all round and one of its greatest assets is its remarkably compact layout.

You never have to walk far to reach any of the terminals, the train station is very handy and the car parking for most of the year (holiday periods apart) is generally quick and easy and regularly served by the free airport buses.

Even so, where I live (some 44 miles from the airport and mostly motorway miles) many people use one of the two local taxi services specialising in taking passengers to and from the airport; it costs around £39 return on average for the two trips; a variety of vehicles are available, from Mondeos etc to MPVs.

The only snag, which is for insurance purposes imposed on the taxi firms, is that you have to leave about an hour to an hour-and-a-half earlier on the outward trip than you would in your own car in case of any holdups (Thirlwell Valley, for instance, has been a nightmare for a long time delays wise).

I left mine at Shentons at Handforth (10-15 mins away) this month. It was recommneded by a friend who always leaves his beloved car there and has alweays been very impressed.

When I got there the place is as rough as bear's bum but my car was looked after, they bussed me in and out promptly and I was very impressed. £30 for ten days if I recall. I would recommend it.

They have a website.

Left my car at Manchester Airport just recently, think it was called 'Premier car parks' and is linked on the airport website.

Turned up, handed my keys and got on shuttle bus..5 mins to terminal 2 at 10 min intervals. Cars seemed to be fairly spaced out and as i'm sad I checked the odo and only done 0.2 miles so not driven too far!!

Was quite cheap too if booked far enough in advance

Have a look at www.airport-hotel-shop.co.uk They list best prices at umpteen airports around the country, most of them include either 8 or 15 days parking if you want it.

Prices at Manchester seem dearer than Heathrow, strange, I thought everything was cheaper oop North.

It is, except for New Labour taxation levels...:-)

Another recommendation for Shentons. Doesn't look like much, but never had a problem there. Leave a bit of extra time as its about a 10 minute drive from the airport. You do have to leave your keys, and if you are staying less than 3 days its not as cheap as onsite DIY long stay airport parking.

Thanks to all--to conclude we have decided to take a taxi simply because 1)after a long day in Singapore we have 23.50 14 hour overnight flight and I am not a good sleeper on long haul,I am not prepared to drive 80 miles back to Derby in that condition.
Plus looking at parking charges and fuel costs a taxi seems to make more sense coming back and a friend will take us there.
Thanks again.

Searching for some good deals on airport parking in uk for save some amount of money.Do you have that kind of discount vouchers?

I don't know who you think we are, but I'm afraid that motoring forums aren't the best place to look for discount vouchers.

Try googling airport parking deals and see if it gets you somewhere.

Cars and airports do indeed NOT mix. In nearly all instances now-I either take the train( risky, becuase it might get stuck/break down/cancel) or most likely take a reliable local taxi from home-also booking it for a return journey. Someone else can take the strain and as for the cost, it's just one of those things you can justify under "peace of mind" -after all-if it's a holiday-it's prob only once or twice a year.
