I've just read HJ's 3 series review and noticed "6 CD autochanger £280". I don't regard £280 as cheap but if you buy a Honda they want £600 !

I always thought that BMW bits were expensive.....but their oil and tyres are very competative when you come to need them...
|
|
|
|
Try ordering Sat Nav on a lower-spec BMW. You have to change so many other bits that it works up to around 2 and half grand
|
|
|
Individually they may be reasonably priced, but there are plenty of boxes to tick!! My 330i (delivered last week) has over £6k of extras (Sat Nav/Auto/Leather/Bluetooth plus alloy wheel upgrade and a few other small bits), and still doesn't have a CD changer! Think I preferred the 330d it has replaced...

I must sau, the £280 doesn't sound that bad at all - especially for a BM.
Example - I paid £180 for an Alpine 6 disc changer plus £50 for the "adapter" (read box with a wire in it).
So getting it properly installed with the car and on a BMW to boot, £280 doesn't seem all that expensive.

6 CD, was std on my Mondeo.

I consider myself lucky to have a 5 CD changer in the dash of my 307. It also includes a cassette player and, of course, an FM/AM radio and I find the set up very convenient. I t was standard in an SE spec so it obviously cost something!

I was told mine had it too.
Oh well...

What, you mean it wasn't really under the passenger seat when you looked? :-)
Optional extra on old Focus Ghia I'm afraid...

It wasn't a selling point Blue. We weren't in the car when he mentioned it so never checked.
Had we found out when he was talking, we still would have bought the car.
Must we call it the old Focus Ghia - how about "Classic Focus Ghia"?
;-)

"Focus Ghia Heritage". Please keep up with current pc correct language. :-)
John

OK, Classic Ghia it is then. :-)

I'm torn now. Heritage seems very regal....
no. If "Classic" is good enough for Merc, it's good enough for me!

Ah but a Classic spec Merc is just a posh way of saying Poverty Spec
|
Now now, Classic Ghia can't be poverty spec, it has real fake wood trim all around the dash and IIRC it even has a little Ghia badge on display inside somewhere. That's in case the lack of equipment in "Classic Ghia" makes you forget that you actually own the top of the range model! :-)
Sorry mate, it was such an easy shot I just couldn't resist!

You'd be nothing unless I gave you the opportunity for these digs Blue - both of you.
Yes - you do get a Ghia badge on the gear lever surround...
...that's an extra too.

It came as standard in my Honda and a 3 series (old model) with the same spec was £8,500 more! It is all relative really!
|
£600 will buy a decent car. Is a £600 CD system worth more than £150? I suspect it will have so many bells and whistles you cannot learn to use them all properly.
BMW extras are reasonable.. For BMW that is. How do you think they are one of the most profitable car makers in £ per car in the world?
By producing nice cars and charging a fortune for extras to punters who - imo of course and no rudeness meant - have more money than sense or whose company has the same.
(My comments are general and NOT directed at anyone)

6 CD came as standard in my Xsara. It's still in it, but not used as I put a Sony head unit in and it's a Philips changer.
|
You still may be able to connect them you know David although I know Sony's have this even stranger "adapter" even if both units are Sony!

I quite like the way BMW work with extras - we'd love to put the sunroof onto the C4, but its only available on the exclusive which is about £6k more than ours.
On a MINI, it was ~£400 on any model.
Much more sensible.
