can anyone advise how to wax polish a black car with the usual halfords cheesecloth material without leaving a trail of white powder,it seems to stick with static,the only solution I can find it to wash the car afterwards

better brands of polish tend not to leave white dust, try meguiers nxt wax, and look for a microfibre cloth they soak up the dust rather than move it around
you may also be putting too much on..thin as possible is fine

You can pick up Xymol cheap from halfords for £10 and as the guy above says - If it's hard to rub off and you're getting dust you're using too much polish.

Put the polish on with a damp cloth, and use don't use too much.
