Bit of a long shot this one, but paging any Bristol based Backroomers.
I'm delivering down west next week but will need to stop in Bristol city centre en route for a couple of nights. Obviously a van parked in the street will be a theft/break in magnet - is there any secure parking anywhere within reasonable diatance of the city?
It's a VW LT35 so about 6 metres long.

Have you already got somewhere to sleep? If not only thing can think of is the travelodge (I think) near the M32. Would be somewhere to stay as well.
And reasonably close to city centre too.

cheers for the suggestion - have got some accom booked by work centrally - but with no parking on site.

Where roughly are you staying and how much of a walk to the van do you want?
First thoughts are that (presumably) multi storeys are out, so then a good place would be the car park opposite St Mary Redcliffe on POrtwall. It's easy walking distance to most central places south of the shopping area e.g. Queen's Square, Temple Meads. Car park is well lit and crucially next to a busy road, so not tucked away.
Avoid side streets in Clifton / Redland / Cotham. Maybe old news now, but these used to be where car crime was a problem.

I'm staying in Lower Castle Street, so that car park looks pretty handy - thanks.

What about the park and ride in Long Ashton?
www.bristol-city.gov.uk/traffic/tt_ti_pr_long_asht...l
There isn't many places I can think of as most of Clifton is Pay & Display. If you head to the outskirts of the city you'll be able to find somewhere safe but its a bit of a trek to go between. If you're ok with that St.George/Kingswood would be good place. The no 40/41/42/43/44/45 buses head that way quite frequently.

There are other park and rides but they're not much good if you want the van out of hours. There is one on the A4 Bath Road (Brislington) and one just off j18 of M5 at Avonmouth.
The postcode of a restaurant next to the Redcliff car park is BS1 6NB.
Walk up Redcliff St, right at Kwik fit into 3 Queens Lane, left into St Thomas LAne, over Victoria St, along the Counterslip and Passage St (over the river) and left up Tower Hill to the Hotel. About 10 minutes.

He's asking for SECURE parking.
Put it this way, when I had a company car I didn't worry so much about the piles of glass you see in most Travel Lodge etc type places, but now I've got my own I'm much more cautious - the ones that I know are bad, I simply refuse to use.

He's asking for SECURE parking.
I know. The logic behind suggesting this car park is that it is well lit and next to a busy road (actually the old inner ring road) so not frequented by oiks.
Alternatively, OP could ask the hotel for suggestions.

Secure means somewhere with security. Last time I looked, Eastgate centre had a 24 hour patrol cabin in the car park just before you reach IKEA. Turn right into it opposite Tesco at Eastville. If the guys are there all night, you could ask them to keep an eye on it for you? I believe the Esatgate centre etc is privately owned with this resident security set up. Ride to Bristol centre is about 5 to 10 minutes by taxi along the main M32
