1994 Audi 100 tacho illumination - GS
The illumination for the tacho has failed for the lower right hand quadrant of the tachometer. Please can any backroomers advise if a fix is possible without resorting to a new tacho?

I am assuming that the illumination is via a bulb. If so, it is most likely that the bulb has failed or the printed circuit board which it sits in has got a crack.

I would not think that a new Tacho is required. Do you know of any local mobile automotive electricians around your way?
I know of one near Chester if that is any good. (He replaced my cracked circuit board for my 95 Golf VR6 illumination display)

Thanks for your advice. Unfortunately Chester is a bit of a trip from the South East however I do know an auto-electrician. I'll give him a call. Thanks again.

This is a little bulb that sits on a printed circuit at the back of the instruments. You need to remove the instrument cluster - the bulbs are bayonet fitting and come in various shades - red, dark red, yellow and white, and the plastic mounting is colour coded according to a seemingly arcane scheme! The dash illumination are usually white bulbs, but might have, for example, a yellow plastic mounting. Best thing is to take it out and show the dealer, as they can't usually work out which is the right one from their ETKA diagrams.
Good luck.
El Dingo.
