Hi,

I've just noticed that off-side outer CV gaiter has got sort of groove in it, presumably rubber has started splitting. It doesn't leak, but I wonder how long it could go for before it does split and lets all the grease out and dust in ?

I ask, cause although I will probably replace it now, a friend of mine who's got the same car had had similar condition on a CV gaiter for a year before he replaced it. It never actually split.

I'm going to phone around for quotes, but could anyone give me an idea of how much it should cost ?

Hello, the job in my garage would cost you £55 + vat. thats a Megatec boot guaranteed for life of car, fitted.

Whereabouts are you ?
And still, I wonder how long it will last, how much time have I got ?
Interestingly, the car passed its MOT just about 3 weeks ago with no advisory notes whatsoever...

Got it done today at an independent garage for £70 as dealer wanted £150. Everything seems ok, bar one thing. They used an aftermarket boot, which seems a little bit flimsier than an original one. My mistake, should've got one from dealers.

Anyway, I wonder how long should those last from your experience ? Am I just being paranoid ?

In case I've not made that clear, the boot that the garage used is not of a split type, but a proper one, thus more than an hour of labour.

Never heard of a CV boot with a lifetime guarantee. Who makes them, Davey. Looked on the web unsuccessfully. Is it one of those which you stretch over the CV?
