Richard Hammonds maths is a little suspect. 27500 minus 15000 = 12500 in my house.

"Nothing less than 8 cylinders will do"

I never picked up on that at the time v8man!
I was expecting to see something about the Murano but there wasn't.
Oh well.

Adam
|
IIRC it was 27000 Nm for the hard top, and 15500 for the soft, which makes 11500 difference.
|
|
Never mind the maths chaps!!!!
I couldnt stop laughing when Jezza tried to respray the arches on the Roller, i mean yeh right the silver would be the same for the 70's Roller than a 21st century BMW!!!

Its not what you drive, its how you drive it! :-)
|
Yes, but his filler round the wheel arches was so smooth, you'd never notice the slight difference in paint colour!

Did anyone else thing that GT40 Blue was the nicest they'd ever seen?
Much nicer than the red.

Perhaps you get a lot of blues with a Nissan Micra.

Did you see the look on their faces when he drove it into the swimming pool lol. They had spent ages steam cleaning the pool, and then he drives an old banger in it!

His entrance certainly made a splash.
It must have been pre-arranged, with at least one diver nearby, otherwise health and safety would have gone ape.
Leif
|
"It must have been pre-arranged"
There was considerable padding at the end of the pool in one of the camera shots

Do we need to point out that the swimming pool thing was actually a spoof.

Recorded it earlier. Didn't have to fast forward it (only through that song rubbish). Enjoyed it even the Star in the Suzuki. I want a DB9 and a Wisemann,.. ooh and a TVR and probably a.....
|
Funny how at the beginning of the show they talk about buying cars of your dreams and that practicalities and sensibility should not come into the equation, yet when it comes to the TVR they rubbish it because its not "convienient" or some such nonsense.
Make up your mind guys.
Glue factory stench or not, I would still love to have a TVR, certainly would rather have one over a "wooden" Morgan or whatever Hammond's dream car was.

Getting fed up with s-i-a-r-p-c.
When they relocate Top Gear studio nearer to Clarkson's gaff, they will have a new track, so new lap records and new car/revamp for the s-i-a-r-p-c.
Not sure when this will be but pretty sure I read about planning applications last year......

I did notice tonight though that the car is now on an 05 plate so perhaps the track will be changing but not the car?

No but i'm sure Aprilia has done a rebuild on one!

siarpc is become soooooooo tedious. Here is my idea to revamp the format.
Keep the TVR they had on last night and use that for the stars.
Rename the slot "Celebrity in a potential Coffin".

Last I heard, it was rejected. I remember reading about it in the Oxford Mail, but as yet haven't been able to find anything on the web about it.
|
From The Oxford Mail site (www.thisoxofrdshire.co.uk)
First published on Tuesday 07 December 2004:
Show studio can be built
A studio in which the BBC motoring show Top Gear will be filmed can now be built at an airfield in Oxfordshire.
West Oxfordshire District Council's uplands planning sub-committee yesterday granted approval for the studio despite objections from residents near the site at Enstone.
The site is just a few miles from the Chipping Norton home of the programme's presenter, Jeremy Clarkson.
Conditions limit filming to 20 days in one year and not having more than 300 guests as an audience in the purpose-built 10,000 square foot studio.
|
I posted something similar late last year:-
www.honestjohn.co.uk/forum/post/index.htm?v=e&t=27...0
but approx 6 weeks ago the Oxford Mail reported it was now not happening. However, having just spending the past few minutes googling, I have been unable to find out anything more about it.
|
Re the Roller in the pool stunt last night. See
www.chippingnorton.net/index2.html
(scroll down for the article) for the story behind the stunt.
cheers

|
And reading further down Stargazer's link...
"Television presenter Jeremy Clarkson will.............................The outspoken motoring journalist is best known for his television programme Top Gear, which was set to relocate to Enstone Airfield until the move fell through this year."
|
One question on the stunt - did JC see it all the way through or was there a stunt driver for the vital bit?
|
Ah, somebody follows my links....I didnt spot that one!
I.
|
I found that link earlier when googling, but also failed to spot the Enstone comment further down. I only got as far as the pool article.
|
|
Do we need to point out that the swimming pool thing was actually a spoof.
I assumed the organisers knew of the stunt, but wasn't sure if it was a real opening, or actors. Seems it was the latter.

The top gear lap pictured here, a bit inconclusive? what happens at chicago? IIRC they go to the left of tyres so picture a bit misleading.

Top Gear last night...
I can't believe there's not already some comment. I thought it was an excellent show and really enjoyed it. Especially the Mother bit.
|
I thought it was good too. The mother's bit may calm down those who say the programme never considers 'normal' motorists.
Top Gear may be able to do a very good piece on how to reject a car considering the number of problems JC is having with his new Ford! If I had a car which couldn't be trusted to start I'd be considering getting it to the dealer and leaving it there for good.
New Cadillac - OK it goes round the track quicker than the A4 V8 - but the steering wheel is still on the wrong side. Interesting comment about a cheap interior - I bet that car costs about £20k in the States and savings have to be made somewhere.
|
|
The mother's bit was superb and their sons were plain wrong. The Jazz is by far the better car over the Renault for all the reasons the women gave. It is far better at doing what it was designed to do. I do wish they would stop thinking speed at the time. It is irrelelvant when driving a small town car in an urban environment.
Also, the Cadillac section was poorly filmed. It was dark around the edges and there was not enough film inside, despite all the comments about it feeling cheap.
--
Espada III - well if you have a family and need a Lamborghini, what else do you drive?
|
The mother's bit was superb and their sons were plain wrong -
and your qualifications and experience to make this statement are?
say something you did not like, did they!!!
after all its only their opinion even though their opinions are respected by the majority.
from what ive seen and heard their mothers are about the right age for a jazz because most(not all) under 50s wouldnt dream of owning one. Bit like Honda in general.
|
and what is the point of that note ?
|
There is no right or wrong.
The boys prefered the Renault (The reasons tho escape me!) and the Mothers prefered the Jazz. It was fairly close on both side it seems.
The interesting things was that ALL quite clearly rejected the pug 1-007 (I refuse to call it 1007 it sounds like carpet cleaner)
And yes it is nice to see JC suffering with his new car.
And PG? surely you still cant fancy RH after seeing his promo photos?
|
And PG? surely you still cant fancy RH after seeing his promo photos?
I went to the touring cars at Oulton Park yesterday... came within inches of Jason Plato and then came home to Hammond on the TV.
Heaven. :)
|
"came within inches of Jason Plato"
you know VBH has beaten you to it?
|
|
|
They gave no reasons for preferring the Modus over the Jazz - just our mums were wrong. At least give a reason like I did.
--
Espada III - well if you have a family and need a Lamborghini, what else do you drive?
|
|
|
SWMBO wants a Jazz and she's well under 50 !(35 last month)
|
There are two motoring related programmes tonight that may be of interest -
BBC1 7pm True Story - substandard road repairs.
ITV1 8pm Smart4rse brief who defends rich clients on motoring charges.
|
|
|
|
The mother's bit was superb and their sons were plain wrong. The Jazz is by far the better car over the Renault for all the reasons the women gave.
Sorry, no, probaly the only time I will agree with Hammond, May and Clarkson together however the Modus is clearly better at what it is designed to do as well as being quicker and more characterful.
|
Then add the reliability factor in and which are you going to buy with your own money.
BTW I am 42 and bought a Jazz asa a commuter car and clocked up 66k in 2.5 years.
I moved 2 filing cabinets simultaneously.
It was easily quick enough for most situations.
Jazz has to be the better car from all perspectives unless you intend to drag race them!
|
Then add the reliability factor in and which are you going to buy with your own money.
Wife's got an excellent '98 Clio, I don't have concerns over Renault reliability. And as I said on another thread recently I would rather have a charaterful, fun car with the odd hiccup than a boring dull one that goes on and on.
|
Having driven both, I can say with some certainty that the Jazz is by far the better car. It handles well, is easy to drive but also rewarding and has bags of room and novel features rather than the gimmicks which renault foist on us.

Espada III - well if you have a family and need a Lamborghini, what else do you drive?

I missed TG on Sunday, usually it's repeated Tuesday night, but the tennis is on. Does anyone know when it is repeated?
Thanks

I think you've missed it - shown last night at 11:20 on BBC2.
If it's any consolation, I missed it too!

Damn!
UK People in about 6 months then
Thanks

Nobody's missed the repeat.
It's Tuesday today and the repeat is at 11-20pm...:-)
Mind you I do seem to remember past repeats were on a Monday, but as I watch the Sunday showing I've no way of checking.

I normally rely on the EPG on Sky, but it threw a wobbler and only showed me what was on up to 10pm. Weird. Working ok now though.
Thanks

Actually, it won't be that long. At the weekend they showed the episode where Hamster, James, and Jezzer bought a BMW, Jaguar, and that Turbo thingy, and were set a series of tests - in which James won in the Jag.
UK People seem to be only running a couple of weeks behind BBC2 at the moment, depending on when you watch of course.
|
I need to watch it again because as I watched it on Sunday, I noticed that whilst Damon was sweating profusely (it was recorded on the Wednesday), JC sat there a cool as a cucumber, and then I saw the ducting in his seat headrest. Could it be that JC needs his personal air con system while all about him were suffering? We need an answer to this..

Suprised no thread on this tonight?
Disapointed on two points,
1- No metion of the passing of Richard Whiteley, a shame really as he gave great entertainment in the Liana. Just a brief mention would have sufficed.
2- Yet another car v boat, plane or whatever to somewhere in Europe.. yawn.....
Best bit was the joke about the Hummer after shave!
|
1- No metion of the passing of Richard Whiteley,
Probably recorded before his death.
2- Yet another car v boat, plane or whatever to somewhere in Europe.. yawn.....
I agree. I must admit to enjoying the previous two, but this was just dull.
|
Liked the look of the new Alfa though, mindyou they gave Alfas and BMWs a bit of stick at the same time.
I.

Is she getting the Stig's job?
|
But you said you wanted to have Mark's babies!
|
Awesome!
She looks the type who would prefer the more mature and experienced type though, Adam.
So back off.
|
Hey hey.
Fair point though Tom - I am immature.
Frosty - Mark's gone now so what can I say?
I hope she does get The Stig's job. Might make things a bit more interesting.

Like them a bit dominant do we Adam? Whips and boots?

I simply recognise good driving when I see it RF. Quite clearly she knows how to handle herself.
That a diplomatic enough response for the life of this thread?

Clarksons I think as he's going to be off the road for 6 months. Mentions of autumn filming for next series.

I read often, only post occasionally
|
Top Gear this evening - a German blonde racing driver celebrating the Transit's 40th anniversary by driving one round the Nurburgring and only narrowly failing to do so in under 10 minutes.
Just think what she could have done in a Focus saloon.... Another older Eve it seems.
|
Woah woah woah. I'm not liking all these insinuations - especially from you HJ! ;-)
How many more times to I have to say it Avant? The Focus saloon would thrash ANY car on the track ever with even me driving it let alone Sabine.
Yes - it is very hot. I think I'm coming down sunstroke.
--
Adam
|
The words 'suck' 'in' 'blow' 'bubbles' come to mind.
|
She was overtaking sportsbikes and Porches. As Richard Hammond said, can you imagine the looks on their faces when a Transit came past on a bend?
All that and a German panchant for black leather and disciplin too. I'm in love.
|
|
|
"let alone Sabine"
Was that what HJ was trying to tell you?
Maybe you and she can get together to bring saloon car racing to the 2012 Olympics? You'd have a good chance because presumably hatchbacks and estates are excluded from saloon car racing?
|
Clarkson has dislocated two disks and might have to have an operation - clearly someone o the production side cleverly remembered the lassie who guided him in the Jag last year at the Ring and beat his time without breaking sweat afterwards.
Mind you the amount of practice under her belt make it no surprise.
Makes even V B-H seem like an ordinary driver but nowhere near as gorgeous...:-)

Holy bejesus.
Got in late after going to the theatre and watched TG....
and I quote
"Go. Go, go, go, go, go, go"
"Slipstream, Mr Slipstream, I'm coming. Closer, closer, closer, closer."
"Yaaaaaa. Now it's working."
Much as I like JC, RH & JM, I will demand a refund of my licence fee if Sabine isn't added as a regular to TG. Or the news. Or the idents for BBC3.
VBH? Pah!!!!
