Strategies for fixing engine stuttering - Eriq

I have had a 2000 4 cylinder Camry for 18 months and it's a really nice car. Its done just over 100K miles and been serviced regularly although recently not by the Toyota agent.

Problem is that the engine has started stuttering intermittently on acceleration although everything else seems to be OK. The stuttering happens right across the range of revs and the speed does eventually pick up.

Is there a way to avoid having all the electrics replaced bit by bit until the culprit is eliminated? The garage I take it to doesn't have scanners and stuff. Would it be better to take it to the Toyota agent who might be able to hook it up and diagnose what is wrong?

Certainly a good start RF.

Eriq, if that doesn't work, there are lots of independent garages with electronic equipment, mainly for testing emmissions, that will charge less than £50 for a once over.

Try conning someone you dont like very much to grab hold of the HT leads one at a time while you give it a quick blip on the gas. A loud cursing sound will often indicate a lead starting to break down.
