As an outsider, it probably looks cool.
The reality is that it is a bunch of people that have zero respect for anyone and one day they will end up killing an innocent bystander in the name of replicating a movie.
Also, sadly I used to have to get involved completely legally and in a business sense (until I wised up and ditched them as clients...scary in itself) with some of the people that are in the race and frankly they are just scuzzers that have made money by (and I am being kind, so the thread does not get pulled) selling goods in grams, unconventional VAT practices and working in a laundry of sorts.

Well, if money was no object, and I had a nice Supra twin turbo handy, I wouldn't mind having a go! It costs something like 8 Grand to enter, but on reflection, thats nothing to the people that enter such things.
And of course, I would adhere to the local speed limits like a good responsible driver!!

Rich, publicity-hungry idiots showing off their cars in the brashest way possible. They invariably get caught by the French/Spanish police while on their travels, and the steep fines handed out are no more than they deserve.
Don't get me wrong, I love fast and exotic cars as much as the next man, but there are many better ways of enjoying them than the Gumball 3000. If you're a serious racer with a seriously fast car, then take it to a track or airfield day, rather than racing on public roads and putting the public at risk. This what the majority of TVR/Porsche/Lotus owners do, and I think many of these guys look upon the Gumball competitors as having "too much cash and not enough driving skill".
