Clean the screen and wiper blades with vinegar, malt or light, seriously it works.

Is the windscreen greasy? Does water bead on the screen when wetted rather than cover the surface as a continuous film?
One solution for an intractable greasy screen is to use domestic 'Silvo', the liquid for cleaning your household EPNS and Silver artefacts, if you have any, of course.
Anyway, wash the screen copiously with water such that you remove any dirt and grit and then dry it. Apply the Silvo liberally with a soft cloth rubbing vigorously and then allow to dry to a white film which you then rub off. I should add that Silvo does contain its own protective substances, I suppose to offset the effects of polution tarnishing the silver objects again too quickly.
After going over the whole windscreen in this manner, take a wettened leather and rub the windscreen to remove this invisible, slightly 'waxy' Silvo residue. I can assure you that you will end up with a grease-free screen again and this should stop your wipers squeaking. Of course if your blades aren't tracking across the screen properly then they will judder or squeak and the only way to alleviate this problem is to realign the arms or replace them with new ones!

Did you just replace the rubber blades, or the whole assembly that also holds the blades?

I replace the whole assembly that also holds the blades.

Check they are perpendicular to the glass. If the wipers are pulled up and then bent up or down, it can twist the arm (the bit you don't replace, so that when the wiper goes back on the glass, it is tilted at an angle rather than 90˚

I've found that Autoglym glass polish keeps squeaks away for quite a long time - it's also the best windscreen cleaner I've ever tried!
I also saw in a magazine somewhere that they have just introduced their own fly remover. Apparently, they've done lots of research on this and think they finally have a product that does the job - without harming paintwork.
I haven't tried the fly stuff yet but it already seems to be 'open season' for the little devils again!
I guess it might also be good on windscreens.
Has anyone had go?

Does this product actually 'clean' the glass or does it, like a lot of so-called glass cleaners leave some sort of film behind? Is cleaned glass bead-free after using Autoglym's glass polish as the word 'polish' does not bode too well to my ears.

I know what you mean - that was an initial worry for me, but the opposite seems true! There isn't a sign of residue or beading that I've noticed. It's remarkably easy to clean off. You THINK it's going to leave streaks and 'gum' but it doesn't! - just wipes clean off and leaves the glass sparkling!
'Polish' is a bit of a misnomer - to me, it's a cleaner.

What screen wash are you using? I find that if washing up liquid is used instead of a "propper" screen wash the screen gets very squeeky, and can take a long time to quieten down.

I'm using Car Club all seasons screen wash.

Washing up liquid?? You should never use this type of product, anyway, in windscreen washer reservoirs. The surfactants used for cleaning dishes etc. will ruin the 'rubber' blades of windscreen wipers and not do much good to the paintwork either, come to that.
Despite what people might think about commercial products and their costs, not all products are interchangeable and there are times when you must adhere to those designed for the job.

While oldgit is right that Washing up liquid alone or in quantity should never be used in a screenwash reservoir a drop or two in five litres of ready to use improves the removal of oily grime 100%.
