Chipping a Renault dCi - Xileno {P}
Anyone got any experience of chipping a dCi engine. There is loads of stuff on the internet about chipping VW TDi's but not much on Renaults. A friend is very impressed with my 1.5 100bhp dCi and wondered if his Clio 80bhp could be chipped. I think my dCi has a dual vane turbo which the Clio doesn't but he may be able to increase it to 90bhp.

Superchips will do one ( www.superchips.co.uk ), IIRC it's about £500 and adds 15 bhp to that engine. I've heard good things sbout their service as well.

The Clio is available with the 100 bhp engine, values of the 80 and 100 are similar so your friend might be better to sell his 80 and buy a 100 of a similar age/spec.

Try www.upsolute.com. they have agents in the UK and will chip your car at home or at your work place.
I've had a Merc Cdi and VWTdi chipped by them. In each case it was the best £300 Ive spent

I can recommend www.dervdoctor.co.uk - Gav is an expert on all things diesel and he is usually a fair bit cheaper than things like superchips

Just wondering:

I wonder what percentage of chip tuned cars have been done so without the knowledge of the insurer? Most, I reckon, if a straw poll of friends is anything to go by. I ended up having to switch from Tesco and use a specialist broker (Adrian Flux) because Tesco (and all other direct insurers I found) had no means of assessing non standard risk. I don't care that the change is "undetectable" (not true of course, if searched for hard enough, or the software checksum is checked); it was more a matter of principle to tell them.

Insurance cost for my BSR PPC chipped 252bhp/410NM V70 2.4T changed from £430 pa with £250 excess (standard car, with Tesco) to £557 pa with £320 excess (chipped car, with NU via Adrian Flux). This was less than I was quoted for a standard V70 T5 - which is slower accelerating and outright (because revs become the issue, with the electronic speed limiter now removed) than my otherwise identically equipped 2.4T - and came as a pleasant surprise.

I haven't had the car flat out, but on the two occasions I tried in France, the serene and unending way it relentlessly pulled past 110, 120, 130, 140 MPH (to quote an FJ1200 bike review I once read) "with the inevitability of a falling bomb" was unbelievable. Of more use to me in daily driving is the huge in-gear acceleration, but either way, this was the best motoring six hundred quid I've ever spent.
