I'm thinking about subs to AuctionView but I have a couple of ques. would appreciate your input:
Can you search for all cars avail. at a specific Auction site? for a specific sale day? Or can you only search by make/model?How much time in advance is the info avail.?
It works on a no. of searches basis so once I get the results for a search can I view all the cars in the search results without the search no. going down?
Does the info provide Pics? Info on Service history? V5? No. of owners? MOT expiration? Reg Date? Mileage Warranted info?...anything else
Cheers

anyone?

Not used it for a few months, but the search facility is pretty flexible - you can search by make and model, sale, and site. Cars appear on the system as they are entered for sale - some of the bigger fleets put there stuff on 2 weeks before the sales, others go on the evening before the sale.
Some cars have pictures, others don't, same with information although the majority have V5, MOT and whether there is a a service history.
A search is counted as a set of criteria - any records returned from that you can view without affecting your search count. If you're after something specific you can see the number of cars on the system for a given set of criteria without running a search - eg. if I was after a Mondeo Ghia X TDCi at Belle Vue I could see how many there were without that counting as a search, so you can see check for new additions without doing lots of searches.

The Stock Locator allows you to search by any combination of Location, Make, Model, Derivative, Engine capactiy, Body type, Doors, gearbox type, Fuel type, mileage, Registration, Price range. So a search for all hatchbacks at Measham you currently get 377 hits. The listing shows date of sale, reg no, and other basic info. Some have pictures and some have some additional info, but never much e.g.
AUDI A3 1.9 TDI 100 SPORT, 3 Doors, Hatchback, Diesel, Manual Transmission, Registered 10-01-2002
To be auctioned at Measham on 10-05-2005
Registration FM51DZT
Registered 10-01-2002
Colour BLACK
Mileage 71,715
Equipment
Log Book Log Book Present
Location Measham
The lists are usually on line 3 days and more before sale date but can be amended up to and including sale day. Sometimes they are VERY late appearing (same day). Price informaiton isn't always present, sometimes show CAP/Glass's price and sometimes average at BCA.
I don't know about number of searches but would suspect that if you bought 50 searches, 1 search would be getting the list - you could look at each car detail without it costing a search. No info on MOT.
You can also browse entire catalogues for specific days/auctions but you are looking at the same info as above, and the catalogue isn't necessarily in the same order as it will be on the day (so you can't depend on turning up at an estimated half way through the auction as the car may have gone through in position 1). Also I've known them split auctions - they suspend one because another needs to start at a specific time - then resume afterwards.
Hope that helps

Cheers You're Top Blokes Quinny & Smokie!
Im looking for "safe" low mileage cars so I'd want to check through ones from say TSB Autolease/Motobility, I suspect the online catalogue would show these cars in sections, does the individual car profiles show which named sale its in?
Also I would greatly appreciate any advice on which sales are usually good cars, Im in the Enfield area and BCA run these sales;
London Direct
Jardine Motors Group
Provecta
Sytner Group
Autoplanet
Vardy Contracts
Tuesday Select
Distributor Select
London Direct
Distributor Select
Ford Credit Alternate
Summit Group
Black Horse Alternate
Pendragon
Dagenham Motors
Lloyds TSB Autolease
Inchcape Fleet Solutions
National Police Alternate
Distributor Select Charvill Bros
Glyn Hopkin
Village Car Supermarket
Saturday Select
Thank you again!

If you search by car then you get the entry I cc'd above. The key line is " To be auctioned at Measham on 10-05-2005". You then have to go into the catalogues for this place and day and find the car.
The catalogue search is by Location, Day or Sale Type. Each sale is listed separately, so for instance for Enfiled there is currently a list of 60 sales which starts like this.
Branch Auction 12-05-2005 Enfield Dagenham Motors Red hall 9
Branch Auction 12-05-2005 Enfield Ford Financial Services 65
Branch Auction 12-05-2005 Enfield Jardine Motors Group 0
So you can locate specific sales. You can then click on these to see what's in the catalogue.

btw the last number in each row above is the number of cars in the sale - so Jardines presumably have a sale planned but don't yet have the data loaded.

Cheers Smokie!
I was looking through the list and motability dont sell through
enfield so im kinda stuck as I only know that TSB sales are safe, I presume that all the "select sales" are part-ex's and should be avoided but any idea on the rest? Im looking for a 3/4yr old car, low mileage so perhaps some sort of fixed mileage finance company sales?
Thanks for your time.

Been looking into it, Do these sales sound a good bet?
I think they are all Fleet/Finance sales
Provecta
Vardy Contracts
Summit Group
Black Horse
Lloyds TSB Autolease
Inchcape Fleet Solutions
Ive deliberately ignored dealers, am I right in thinking that dealers would almost never put in a "good" car to the auction unless they had problems selling it on their own forecourt?
Are Black Horse connected to Lloyds TSB?
Cheers Barry

It's not 100% but generally most dealers will either sell a PX car on their forecourt or trade the vehicle onto another dealership if it is under 4 or 5 years old, nice condition with low miles. If it is old, tatty, high mileage or a combination thereof it will get sent to auction.
|
Blue , I've not considered buying at Auction before but you're sayin that if it aint Fleet/Finance dont bother? I've noticed that most clean cars go for 1K below Retail prices at auction, is it worth the risk? Whats considered "high" mileage these days? more than 15K a year?

I'm not saying don't buy them but there will be some reason why the dealer has sent that car to auction, also bear in mind that many ex fleet cars will have been treated badly by company car drivers
Yes cars will go for less than retail at auction - this is because the dealer who is buying them will need to prepare them for sale, put a warranty on them etc so if your buying fromauction as a private buyer it will be cheaper than going to a dealer.
|
Despite my knowledge of AucrtionView I am not a regular buyer. I have bought four cars at auction, all ex-fleet at 3 years old, and they have all worked out well. I would do so again. But it's worth taking a long hard look over the car before buying as you don't get a second chance.
|
Smokie what mileages did you get them at? I've seen that Fleet cars are usually 60K upwards. Probably Japanese cars dont come through the fleets?

Black Horse section is the finance/repo stock NOT fleet direct.
& I'd say your looking at the WRONG auction, certainly for sensible miles, Autolease stock.
If you compare what gets sold there, compared to, say Blackbushe, they are, to a degree, cherry picking for BB & leaving the megamile stuff for Enfield.80k is LOW for Enfield!!
Unfortunatly for buyers, prices are not always going in line with mileages. Not that I'd suggest dodgy traders are paying a premium, for stock, to clock, at Enfield.
&, of course, some of the prices made at BB, show just how many private buyers now attend - check out the cashiers Q, for non-account customers, it runs around the place 3 times before you find the end!!
Have a few dry runs & don't be too vehicle specific, when buying - thats when you REALLY pay too much!!
Have fun!

in the past lex leasing have been rather good.
|
Lex are one of the biggest leasing firms out there, they are not the cheapest but they do look after their cars so you stand a good chance of finding something at one of their sales

These were all three years old (or thereabouts)
Focus 1.8 Ghia was about 25k miles (SWMBOs current car)
Omega MV6 3.0 (my current car) was about 22k miles
Rover Sterling (827) (ahem) was around 35 - 40k IIRC
Can't remember the other one...
Omega is now on 107k, all the faults it had have been "known" weak spots. Focus is now on c 48k, only major issue was recent cambelt failure, due to my mech changing belt but not tensioner (which broke up). Rover, surprisingly, never had any faults, btu I hated it and didn't keep it that long... None of my cars are main-dealer serviced and none of them are regularly service either. They occasionally get some new oil, or a filter, or some plugs.
I reckon I saved at least £2.5k on the Omega at the time (you don't usually see these cars for sale privately at that age). Savings of nearly £2k on the Focus when I bought it. The Rover, I paid through the nose for - it just caught my eye on the day and I regretted it ever since.
I've usually targetted only lower mileage cars, although I wouldn't be averse to a decent high miler at the right price, especially one which was a "motorway" type car. Need to listen closely to the auctioneer's description as he will state how many services etc.
