Hi lads, I bought a Ford FOcus in metallic black which had some bad stone chips on the bonnet. So I got hold of a touch up pen and made a really bad job of the repair - now the chips look like patches of slightly different coloured paint...
I think I probably need a bonnet respray. Any idea what the rough cost of this would be? I was hoping for maybe £150-£250 but have no real idea....

yeah 150-250 is bang on target, maybe less for a cowboy job or more at a prestige place
ask about warrentys when getting prices

Had one done at a Seat dealership to take out a dent from a stray golf ball, told me the dent was too near a ridge on the bonnet for a "dents out" type job. Dent and painting was £350ish. Guess your figures are round or about what you would expect for prep and paint.

Had mine done at a mate of my Dad's (proper outfit though) for £100.
That's on a Focus with a dent in. Top quality job.

Just got a quote for my Passat today. My ladders blew off the front of my house bounced on the guttering and landed on the bonnet on Saturday.
Failed to carry out a proper risk assessment!
There are a couple of small dents and various scratches. the quote is £500 so I'll have to claim it.

In my experience its usually cheaper to get a pre-sprayed Panel from the Manufacturer direct. I know Honda do this but not sure about the rest. Also you wont have to worry about rust/paint peeling on your repaired panel.

Any metallic is not going to be a one panel respray.Even the experts cannot say it is going to match up to wings ect. for a good match having competent sprayer.More than £500 possibly more.But depends on how good a job you want?.Bearing in mind a cheep repair that shows..will cost more to get right..As I recall black is not a forgiving colour to respray

If the cheapest you could get was 500 quid then I'd drive up to Merseyside, have it done, have lunch somewhere nice and still have 250 - 300 left!

Try using a good cuting polish this will leave the touchup paint in the chips and renove the excess paint from around them!
