Triumph TR6. Drove friends on a balmy evening after graduating from uni. Fastest thing I'd ever driven and the way the power affected the steering was 'interesting'. Still, seemed a very desirable vehicle.

What about the Jaguar XJ220

Anybody on this board ever seen one on the road, know somebody with one, or even has one?
Best car you've Never had - Chad.R
I've only once ever seen one actually being driven on the road, though several years ago now. Seen a few at various shows etc. a truly drop-dead gorgeous car.

IIRC, Sir Elton John had one from new for quite a few years but fairly recently sold it.

Citroen 2CV. Horribly polluting, terribly antiquated, but a brilliant piece of lateral-thinking engineering. And it would have allowed me to spend my life driving eggs around ploughed fields ...

Saw one last weekend overtaking me at Bruntingthorpe Proving Ground. I was kroozin' in an aircraft towing tug pulling a 4 wheel dustbin round to a hangar at the time.

There are still a few of those around, for not too serious money. There's a really good site at www.lotus-carlton.co.uk for more info.

they are just ever so slightly fragile though!
Best car you've Never had - Adam {P}
That's exactly what my Dad said when I ran into the kitchen to tell him!

There's something about the Lotus Carlton though. Anything nowadays with that kit on would look too boy racerish but that looks like it was built like that first, and then they decided to make a boring production car out of it.

I like having realisitic dreams and let's be honest, I'm never going to get one of them!

thing is for the £15k minimum you'll need to spend to get a good one there are so many other cars you could buy instead.

Particularly prone to HGF as soon as you start to "play" with the engine.

Exactly keo and bh. If I had 15 grand right now I'd probably go out and buy an RS Focus.

No work needed, pretty much new and after being a passenger in one, I think they're amazing.

The black 1987 Porsche 911 Turbo that I saw at a Porsche dealer about 7 years ago. Immaculate condition but I, of course, had to think about it. When I phoned back it had already been sold.

Missed this thread as we've been away for a week. Depends what you mean by best - I'll go for what I most often wish I'd had - a Triumph Vitesse 2-litre convertible.

It would have been great in the place we've just been - the well-named Eden Valley, between the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales. Most grockles miss it and you can drive for miles in the most beautiful English countryside without seeing another car.

One day if I ever have a few thousand to spare (ha ha) that's what I'll get.
