My Mk 2 Punto bonnet will not open when the bonnet release lever inside the car is pulled. After much time spent with my hand up behind the front bumper skinning my knuckles I gave up and decided to try another day. The release handle inside the car can be pulled but this doesn't release the bonnet.
Does anybody know a technique for releasing the bonnet?

I've had this problem on two of my Fiats. In both cases, if one person pulls the bonnet release inside the car, whilst another person pulls up on the bonnet, the bonnet opened. Once opened, spraying grease on the bonnet catch cured the problem, enabling "one man operation" of the bonnet afterwards.

I have had success with one repeatedly pulling the lever, while the other presses with both hands outstretched on the front edge of the bonnet. Spread hands out to spread the load, to avoid dents in the panel.

I had the same with the wife's Punto, I removed the lever inside the car - 2 x 10mm nuts, so that I could give the cable a full pull rather than just the travel of the lever.
Then spray the lock mech with plenty of WD40 to clean it, then spray grease to lubricate it.

Above worked liked a charm for me... though 8mm nuts on mine (Y reg...)
Ta muchly.

The trick is,
if you have the rubber stops under the bonnet on each side. Get someone to help and open the bonnet, then unscrew each rubber stop by a turn and try it. If better then turn an extra half turn.
