Looking on Autotrader and Renault's and clicked on Reliant by mistake.
Saw some late 1990s 3 wheeled plastic pigs going for almost £7,000.
Who buys these things??????????????????????
I assumed that thay would be totally worthless now !!!!!!!!!
Hope for MG Rover used prices yet then?

Father in law calls his a dog killer. If he misses with the front wheel, he gets them with the back.

The first car I owned, and one of only two I look back on with any affection (the other being a Capri).
A mans car, none of this namby - pamby handling rubbish to bail you out of trouble.

That little aluminium engine was no slouch either. Don't ask me how I know that, I'd never live it down.

Agreed, it use to surprise people at traffic lights
(36,000 miles in 2 years in a turquoise supervan)

The later Robins were hugely expensive new, due to their hand built nature.
There is huge loyalty amongst there owners.
Good Lord! They still make them: pages.zoom.co.uk/robinbn1/

Something a bit strange about that website.
THe car launched in 2001 but none actually sold yet; Warranty details "coming soon"; final specs "will" be released soon.
Sounds like an idea which bombed to me.

And was it Robin Reliant or Reliant Robin ;)
Suppose you could say it either way, but the manufacturers are called Reliant.
Would you say Focus Ford?
or Vectra Vauxhall?

They hold their value because they can be driven on a motorcycle licence without having to take the car test.
This is a true story and I was going to post in 'unusual sightings'.
I saw a yellow Reliant three wheeler the other day on the M23 on the back of a lorry - as I passed I saw the markings 'Trotters Independent Trading'.It was the famous Del Boy motor so he must have been in the 'Capri Ghia' that day.
I got past it pretty quick because anything that Del owns tends to fall off the back of a lorry .....

"It was the famous Del Boy motor so he must have been in the 'Capri Ghia' that day."
I know of at least 5 of those dotted around the country
No not the Kap-ree Ge-ah, the van

There's a more modern Reliant van done up Trotter style running around Bath. I imagine there's a lot more than 5 around the country

Lots of Reliant Robins, actually, more correctly, Reliant 3/25 Supervans, have been bought up, sprayed yellow and signwritten "Trotters Independent Trading"
They get used for fairs, shop openings, all sorts of things.
My father used to own a 3/25 Super (car version, not van). I used to drive it on my motorcycle licence, and I'm quite sure this helped to reduce the number of driving lessons I needed when I began driving 4 wheeled cars shortly afterwards. He had previously owned a Reliant Mark 5, which was an earlier model.
Like many others at the time, he wasn't keen to take another driving test, so drove around in a Reliant for several years. You used to have to have the reverse gear blanked off so that you could legally drive it on a motorcycle licence, but, later on, the law was changed and reverse gear could then be fitted. This entailed changing a plate which fitted inside the top of the gearbox. I know, I watched my father doing it!
I think the law concerning reverse gear was changed in about 1963, but I could be wrong.

Seeing that Reliant 3-wheelers have a separate chassis, I'm surprised lots of old ones haven't been stripped down and turned into front-engined fun trikes! I expect it's been done but I can't remember seeing any.
Cheers, Sofa Spud.

The best thing about the Regal was being able to remove at least three of the plugs, the distributer and the carb from the comfort of the driving seat.
Just as well, because under the flap that passed for a bonnet all you could see was the radiator.
|
I do not remember Reliant 3 wheelers surviving long enough to be turned into anything.
Except 'over'
Remember also that the first Bond BugI saw Edinburgh 1970 ish,was wearing a very fetching lamp post.

I wasna fu but just had plenty.

Speaking of the Bond Bug, does anyone else remember the Bond 875 (I think) with a Hillman Imp engine in the tail? It weighed very little and, for the time, could go. My brother drove one and said it wanted watching, but handled better than he expected.

Charterhouse (West Country Auction House) sold two of these last week, one driveable, the other for spares only - the lot for £560. Drivable one was L reg so probably 73. Was also a Heinkel Bubble which went for £1300. Also 65 Aston DB6 went for £38K

They're bad news for rabbits too :)

I remember the Bond 875. I'd prefer to delete it so that the brainspace can be used to remember something else!

Does anybody know if Robins attract a London congestion charge, as they're classified as motorcycles?
If not it could explain their poularity.

It seems that, in practice, the camera film is never analysed because the staff running the scheme are too busy laughing and shouting "you plonker" etc whenever they see a picture of one.

Reliants are classed as tricycles, not sure what Ken feels about them.
