"Don't Hog The Middle Lane"

That was the message on the matrix signs on the M6 between 19 and 16 this morning. About time we had a sensible message, rather than one telling us to not drink and drive. Like you are going to think "oh, I'm drunk, better pull over"

Seemed to do the trick. Lane 1 was full of lorries, lane 3 was full of cars, and lane 2 had myself and a few others doing a nice steady 70, making more progress than the numpties in lane 3.

Checking the highways agency web site ( tinyurl.com/7hm5d ) the M1 message is "Keep left unless overtaking"

Sense at last.

Coming up the M4 from Swansea on Sunday, rain bucketing down, heavy spray, all the usual problems on a wet motorway; message on matrix:

"Poor driving conditions"

Specialised subject: the bleeding obvious.

Well it is stating the obvious for most of us but maybe those who drive like maniancs in the most appalling conditions need to be treated like idiots and have it explained in simple English.

It was "Don't Drink and Drive" all the way up the M6 in appalling conditions on Friday night. Would have preferred "Keep your Distance".

Lanes didn't really matter, for the most part, all were moving at about 40MPH with massive distances between cars, the majority of drivers do appear to be sensible. Of course, there are always the drivers of well made German marques who were weaving in and out of cars to try to make maximum progress. (And, of course, the Range Rover doing a ton while towing a caravan that I saw)

The sad truth is there are drivers out there who need these SOBOs.

I wonder it explains why there is a 50mph around the Swansea area it aint so bleeding obvious unless you're doin 110mph maybe?

Its not what you drive, its how you drive it! :-)

And todays M56 public service announcement via the matrix signs is:

"BIKERS - THINK SAVE RACING FOR THE TRACK"

Don't Hog The Middle Lane - Stuartli
The RAC once labelled such drivers as ClODS - Centre Lane Owner Drivers' Society...:-)

Talk about imformation overload, I saw one sign with a board covering it saying "Sign not in use"

And I once saw a pub called 'Temporary Sign'.

I like the sign at the entrance to the Tyne tunnel - "Don't queue jump", a bit late really as you've already queued for 30 minutes to get to that point!
