Please register below if you don't want to post in a 4x4 thread. You may have a 4x4, you may not ever want to own one, the reason may or may not be loathing / jealousy or indifference.
This is like a vote for "none of the above" - you don't care either way because all the angles have been covered, and it will save bouncing the 4x4 thread higher by posting on it.
I thank you for your support, please wear your rosette with pride.
Next autumn, there may be a similar thread along the lines of foglights ;-)

Get your drift but surely the best way for everyone here to 'respond' to any threads they find tedious, irrelevant or repetitive is just ignore them. People come and go here all the time so whilst some may not wish to discuss 4x4's (or indeed anything else) again, others may well feel different. I don't think there are too many issues which have already been discussed here at some point and aren't going to be debated again in the future - except possibly Sodium Valves :)

Could not fault your suggestion of ignoring those threads which would not be of interest V.M. Your mention of Sodium Valves however took me to the Forum Search and I could not find any mention of them. When were they ever discussed and at what length?

The actual length doesn't matter, but if it increases by more than 6 thou in 3000 miles you've got a problem.
Not posting on a boring thread is my usual stance, but it's a bit like not voting if you don't care about which party gets in. A vote for "none of the above" is a bit stronger I feel.

IIRC Sodium Valves was a thread started by our erstwhile brother Toad, of Toad Hall. IMO it was without doubt the most boring thread EVER lodged in the BackRoom (and probably anywhere else for that matter) without a convoluted Bogush 'contribution'.
It was quite a while ago now, back in the dark distant days when Sodium was transformed to '***ium' by the swear filter. Have done a quick search myself but can't find it either. Maybe to Mods. had one of their clearouts.

I wish to offer a prize to the person who can directly and conclusively link people who drive 4x4's with foglights on and who park in disabled bays to the bankrupcy of MG rover.

You might be over-simplifying! Surely the complete backroom stereotype would involve female drivers, tailgating, a particular brand of German car, and possibly lane-hogging along with non-use of indicators ... all on the way to school?

You seem to have forgotten the permanently on fog lights!

The 4x4 controversy is likely to continue, whatever one's views, and it's definitely a hot motoring topic.
I have to say I've gone off the idea of owning another 4x4, having sold my old Land Rover 90 recently because it did 19 mpg and I hardly ever used it. Until the VW Toareg V6 TDI becomes affordable on the secondhand market (8-10 years time!!!) I can't see myself buying a 4x4 for everyday use.
Lots of people choose to drive these large, lumpy estate cars whose whole raison d'etre is their 4-wheel drive system which is largely redundant for most owners. Other people choose to drive high performance cars or luxury saloons, either of which are often just as uneconomical as 4x4 SUVs. Others still drive older 'sensible' cars, that have not been maintained properly and so pollute and guzzle fuel as much as many a well-maintained 4x4.
Cheers, Sofa Spud

'luxury saloons' should have read 'large luxury saloons'

the 4x4 thread is boring enough, this is worse.
I've locked it since anything to be said seems to have been said.
