chalk crosses on chassis - matstro
We've just bought a 1999 LWB Frontera. Yesterday on peering under the car I noticed a chalked cross on the side of each front chassis leg. The legs have light rusting here and there on the surface in line with all the other original underside bits and pieces.

Why the chalk crosses - I'm intrigued........

I don't know why the chalk marks were there, maybe the seller could enlighten you.

My advice is to consider getting the chassis undersealed.

Very true. A friend of mine took his Metro in to be MoT'd a while ago, and it came back almost entirely yellow!

I've had a white chalk circle at an MOT, marking a small rust hole.
But surface rust isn't a failure point, unless maybe the tester was highlighting that the chassis was thinned bu not holed (yet).
Has it had a recent MOT ? A chalk mark wouldn't last long undneath a car.

The marks were probably made by an MOT tester to show the (previous?) owner problems which were "advisory" from the test point of view...
