Proton Satria GTI..Any Good?? - audi80tdi
Hi all,
Just seen a 2000 V reg Proton Satria GTi for sael. its got 100000 on the clock with a FSH.
Just a couple of question

*Are these cars any good???they certainly look good!
*Are they as fast as other hot hatches...egs Saxo VTS, golf gti etc.
*Hows the Handling

Also what should this car be worth?

Any comments appreciated!

It's an old Mitsubishi Colt, for good or ill, but with Lotus tuned suspension. They got fairly positive write-ups back in the day.

Performance would be on a par with the Saxo and the non-turbo Golf GTIs.

With 100k, no doubt hard, miles on the clock, I wouldn't want to be paying that much for it.

They handle very well, and are fun even though they could do with a few more horses.

Th build quality is not great, and I found little things like rusty screws holding the kick plates after a year or so from new. What the metal below the plates was like I did not investigate, not wishing to find a can of worms!

I would worry about 100,000 miles, they are not likely to have been gentle ones.

I've really little idea of present value, but I would want to keep a bit of cash back in case of any horrors disclosing themselves.

Old technology? Yes
Good image? No
Reliable? Yes

After having 2 Persona hatchbacks I am now using a 1.8 coupe which has the same drivetrain as the GTI (but not the Lotus suspension) and all have been very reliable. The GTI does 0-60 in around 8-9 seconds and gives about 30-35mpg. They lack low down torque but once the engine winds up they rev forever. Yes the interior has to be looked after as it won't stand up to much abuse and the exterior panels are a bit thin so they can get dented easily. The suspension is on the firm side and they are quite noisy. We are talking about 10 year old technology here.

On the plus side, they are a pretty rare sight-not just another Ford or VX-and you know it's going to start in the morning. Having said that, they usually have a shelf life of around 5 years after which things start to need replacing and some spares can be pricey. Personally I wouldn't touch one with 100k on it but for the money a GTI with around 30-40k on it is a steal.

I read somewhere a few years that they're better to drive then the Golf GTI!
*I have a poster in my room with one on!*
