It all starts with a puncture - and guess what ! - cant get wheel off - so call in pro boys and they use a slug of 4" x $2 and a sledgehammer- having put 4 new tyres on and getting ripped off - £530 for 4 dunlop p900s I now find the rear handles like carp - its ok on smooth tarmac but when trhere is a bump it jumps sideways on any corner - feels like there is no suspension ! when pushed down each rear corner it bounces back up ok but is that just the spring - any ideas ??

When you push down on a rear corner, does it settle quickly after 1 - up down movement?
Skipping or jumping sideways at the rear is either too much tyre pressure or defective shock absorber(s)
|
which tyre got replaced and what with ? Have you checked the pressures ?
|
That'll be
"having put 4 new tyres on and getting ripped off - £530 for 4 dunlop p900s "
|
Ah. I took that as having just replaced all 4 before the puncture.
Still - what about the pressures ?
|
Indeed - wont be the first or last time a car has left the tyre fitting bay with pressures all over the place.

The rear shocks on the 9-5 have a reputation for a short life, so it could be those but you need a proper check at a garage. Then check the pressures with a good guage - 32psi is a good norm.
In case of further problems, try looking at www.saabscene.co.uk/ubb/ultimatebb.php?/forum/12.h...l , a very lively and useful Saab dedicated forum (this link is specifically for the 9-5) - you'll get lots of good advice & help very quickly.
BTW, it won't be the tyres that are a problem as such, the SP9000s are highly regarded, and indeed recommended by Hirsch Performance, a leading Saab performance specialist.

Many thanks - have tried pressure from 33 psi down to 27 so will get shocks checked out

Any reccomendations for rear shocks ? SAAB originals or is there a better alternative ? cost is secondary to performance / longevity

You really need to browse through the forum link I posted earlier to get a better idea. The short answer is yes, there are "alternatives" but depends what you mean by better. If you want to sharpen up the handling, there are a number of options e.g. Eibach, Bilstein (both around £550 for the whole car, not just the rear), or the Saab performance upgrade (c. £300-400). If you just want new dampers, possibly Koni adjustables at £180 per pair? Try Elkparts at www.elkparts.co.uk/index.php/cPath/75 for a whole range of options.
I have the Eibach upgrade on my car, seems to be the most popular. Personally, I think it's a little hard, but it sure is an improvement over the standard and most of the other forum members seem happy with it - after all, I am a 50-year old softie!
