2000 Landrover TD5 rear air suspension - D&E
We are thinking of buying a 2000 Landrover Discovery TD5, but note from HJ's carbycar breakdown that there was a problem with floodwater or water from fording streams getting into rear suspension and causing it to collapse. Does anyone know if this was a frequent occurrence or if there was a modification?

I think the water gets into the electrical plugs/sockets, as well as the level devices. But sorry to say, as it's a Land Rover, it's not that uncommon. It's also fair to say that the air suspension is just one of many areas where problems can occur, especially electrics.

I'm not sure if all of them came with air suspension, so you may be able to get one with conventional setup. Certainly with earlier Range Rovers, you could buy a kit to junk the air and replace with springs and dampers.

Before you buy, you may want to look at the JD Power and other reliability surveys on the Disco. Just scroll down to the bottom of the survey, as that's where LR products always are.

Thanks for the info.

never had any problems with mine and it gets well used in some harsh conditions .I would reckon it has the lowest costs for servicing and parts are more readily available than any other in this class of vehicle.
