Does anyone own an Origin B2 solo the Gatso GPS detector? Any views on its efficency? I have an existing Origin Blue i which I am going to upgrade to the B2

I have had both. B1 was big and bulky, B2 is way smaller and can be upgraded directly thru your computer rather than the modem, non-computer, method of B1. It is very easy to self-fit with all wiring concealed. I have to use an aerial on the rear parcel shelf as my car has an anti-glare, slightly metallised, winscreen which makes it very hard for the signal to get thru. I find the display writing a little bit small but the audio warnings etc are spot on. Mine went wrong at just over one year old and was replaced under warranty without any quibbles. A neat bit of kit in my view. I got a very special price by doing a trade in, from B1 to B2, so ask them what they can do for you; you might get over £100 off the list price.

Thanks for the feedback AS..I am after the B2 Solo so no need for the satnav arial as its built in. I have a Merc E320 and I have been told the windows are OK for sat nav signals. If not can I just plug in the old b1 arial? £109 discount from Origin for a trade in at the moment.

I went for the discount and so finished up with 2 aerials; I fitted them both, one front and one back, to see which was the better. I might add that an admin foul up when I changed from B1 to B2 has got me 3 years of free up dates instead of just one. B2 solo is a new one on me, I have had my B2 a year and it has a small black boxy aerial on a 6 foot cable. Any discount would be worth having as there doesn't seem to be much competition among the mainstream sellers!

I am currently looking into a speed camera detector as well and have been looking at the Origin web site.
It suggests that you should only buy from an approved Origin Retailer with the following warning:-
Quote:"What happens if an Origin product is bought from a non-approved reseller?
If an Origin product is bought from a non approved source, the purchaser WILL NOT be eligible to receive any customer support from Origin Technologies Limited post-purchase; furthermore, the product will only be covered by a 28 day warranty, compared with the usual two year warranty on products bought from Origin Approved Reseller."
Is this legal? It sounds like a restraint of free trade violation to me - perhaps this is why there is little competition around and prices remain relatively high.
Your thoughts?

what sort of saving is available by buying thru a non-approved reseller? If you look at my post above you will see that I had a new-for-old replacement on a faulty B2 and if that is the service one gets it seems worth paying for vis-a-vis saving a bit of money and no service. I didn't think that solid state electronics went wrong but mine did and I was glad of the back up!

AS,
I've got no idea what savings are available by buying through "non approved" retailers as I haven't looked. At this stage I was just comparing the specs of different brands of detector through looking at the manufacturer sites of each. It was whilst I was looking at the Origin site I came accross this info.
What I was suggesting was that it surely is a bit naughty of Origin to suggest that no support service is available to people who did not buy through an approved retailer.
After all, an Origin B2 is an Origin B2 wherever the hell you bought it from isn't it - and they must all have been sourced from Origin at some point.
The only point I can see of insisting that you buy through an approved retailer is so that the company can (along with others in the market) keep the prices of these things artificially high. And the point I was trying to make is that, surely that is illegal.
A slightly cock-eyed analogy it may be, but isn't this point similar to the restrictive practises that the EU have just cracked down on, whereby car manufacturers did not honour a warranty unless services were carried out at inflated rates at franchised main dealers.
