Times London.
Fabulous piccy of Bernie Ecclestone pointing at his brand new £300k MB CLS AMG V8 Kompressor. Its on axle stands outside his home cos someone has pinched all four wheels.
Each wheel/tyre will cost £5k to replace.
Question of the day, just how hard did RF laff over his OJ and coffee?
|
The annoying thing about this is that the car was probably given (or loaned) to him by Mercedes. I doubt he had to put his own hand in his pocket to buy it.
That and, the wheels are probably covered by insurance so we will all end up chipping in a bit towards them...
|
|
There's no way he bought it, his wallet is tighter than a Scotsman at last orders.
|
Wierd. The picture in the Daily Mail shows it jacked up on one side with a scissor jack under the sill and two wheels missing. No sign of axle stands.
I'd have thought a man of his means could afford a garage rather than leave something like that on the street. It said the same happened to his previous car as well.

The sort of publicity that says that MB don't include wheel locks with their alloys....
|
|
ain't it true, sadly, that these days nothing is truly thiefproof?
|
Bernie Pitstop...:-)
The cost of replacement wheels won't even be loose change to him, so don't worry about it...:-)

£300k for a CLS?
Is it armour plated, custom painted, retrimmed and basically an entirely rebuilt car?
|
£300k for a CLS?
The extra will be for the special drivers seat padding so the little short 4rse can see out.

Twenty grand for the wheels? That's more than my entire vehicle collection is worth.

RF may have over egged it a bit, I think the car cost £70,000 and the wheels £500 each to replace. Whatever you think of Bernie's fortune it does not excuse stealing. Apparently he is leaving the police out of it and going to 'sort it' himself. "I havent seen a policeman round here for years" was his reported remark. Just like my area.
|
Nope not over egged. Got the article here.
5.4 litre V8 CLS55 AMG Kompressor £300,000 Wheels and tyres will cost more than £5,000 to replace. Each

I too have read these details but -
I assumed the press quessed it was a Maclaren Mercedes but were not aware of his new toy. Two other articles I read said £70K.
The Telegraph said wheels were £500 each.

Besides with his connections he can have them all replaced in 15 seconds.....

I was thinking that myself Stuartli when I read the top post.
I don't see the point of locking wheel nuts when you can get "one size fits all" replacement sockets these days.

It doesn't really matter who ownes the car, does it? It was still an act of deliberate theft, and vandalism according to the Mail. (The car was jacked up any old how and damaged). Apparantly Bernie has cctv footage of it.
If I were Bernie, knowing how well the police react to this sort of thing, I would be enhancing the cctv footage and calling up the biggest, strongest mechanics I know, and inviting them round, tyre levers compulsory.
|
Ah! the good old Daily Mail inciting that no-ones car is safe not even Mr Ecelstone from car thieves and that on our crime ridden streets we're all in danger of having our wheels nicked.
Must be an election soon..
|
£300k car, 5k wheels... hmmmm...
It's fair to say this story has been *sexed up*
|
>>Must be an election soon..>>
A somewhat cynical observation. Bernie is as entitled to the protection/involvement of the law (little as it is it seems) as anyone else.
He himself, however, pointed out that informing the local police would probably prove as useful as taking a Baxi to the Sahara....
