I am looking ay buying one of these cars for my wife, will have to be an auto as she's not very good at the gears and driving.Does anybody have experience of the auto's?She will be using the car for a 20 kilometre commute and the odd shopping trip,no long distance driving,i will use the truck for those.
I will be buying the car in the Philippines, price of a Jazz 1.3S CVT is 690,00 Pesos(GBP=102 Pesos approximately)which seems cheap to me,is the car the same spec as UK?Heres the link:
www.hondaphil.com/specs.php?model=jazz
Have not found out the price of a Yaris yet,not on their website, and the nearset dealer is 1 1/2 hours away, also the country is officially closed for week as its Easter(a Catholic thing).
Any responses would be appreciated.

I'm a Toyota man and can usually answer most questions but i know nowt about the phillipines so you've lost me - only person i can think of here who may have some knowledge of the subject would be Growler.

Jazz looks similar to the 1.4SE in Britain except you have to pay extra for ABS and airbags. Interesting that Honda are more honest with you about engine size, calling the 1339cc motor 1.3 rather than 1.4 with us.
Price with you is amazing! I suspect there is much less tax on cars over there.Price here with the CVT would be £11,400, your price is £6,765.

I am interested in the Jazz CVT for my wife but the price is offputting. It is a lot of money for a small car.

I see you don't get the middle 3 point seat belt in the rear, just a lap belt.

Ive been out to consume a few San Miguels....as it's a holiday. What i really want to know about are the charachteristics of the vehicle, easy to drive etc,the wife is not the best driver in the world.
The size does not matter .I was hit by a large bus a few years ago in a lancer, it was pure luck i survived, just whiplash and a destroyed car.
Any reports would be apperciated

I own a 2004 Jazz, but not the 7 speed CVT although I believe this is very good. I can tell tell you the manual version I have is very easy to drive, comfortable and vastly more spacious than the Yaris. The flexibility of the interior space is amazing, adults who are over 6 feet tall can easily sit in the rear in comfort and the rear seats fold totally flat giving a massive load space. Not sure if all that is important to you but a great car and the price you quote is massively less than the UK you lucky so and so!!
Get the Jazz is my advice.

I was thinking about a Yaris. I did not drive one but sat in both front seats. There was plenty of room and headroom for a tall driver but I was put off by the lack of rear seat and boot space and the choppy ride in motion. O.K. about town, I concluded, but not for long runs. On the other hand, Toyota's reliability record is superb and there seemed to be loads of torque from the turbo diesel fitted. I believe the same engine is used in the bigger Corolla.

I've not tried the Yaris but had a Jazz for 2 years and 66K miles and never regretted a moment.
The ride on early ones was poor but they sorted it about 12 months after release.
Really easy to drive - space superb and flexible.
Not tried an auto but reports are good.
It's also exteremely economical for a petrol - I wa sgetting over 50mpg on a regular basis and have the records to prove it.

Thank you for your replies,i was erring towards the Jazz as the Honda dealer is situated in the next town but will try to get to a Toyota dealer to look at the Yaris.I am tall 6'2" so that could be a factor, not that i'll drive the car very much, just be a nervous passenger.
I am going to Iran for a few months and wiil buy one when i return, will inform you of my choice and impressions.

Haven't tried a Yaris, but bought A Jazz CVT for SWMBO in January. Now covered 2500 miles. Absolutely brilliant. Gearbox is just right for the car and works a treat. Getting about 48 mpg overall, but this should improve when the engine loosens up.
No hesitation in recommending this car. Much more room than a Yaris and likely to be as reliable or better than Toyota - look at all the reliability surveys in which the Jazz comes top!

the 1.4 D4D in the yaris is used in the corolla although the corolla version is more powerful - it's also used in the diesel Mini too.
