Trying to Order the New MX-5 - DPM
Hello backroomers,

Sorry, I'm a long-time lurker in the backroom, and rather selfishly I thought I'd drop in query in case anyone has any ideas.

So I own a very old MX-5, and used to own an Elise which was supposed to have replaced it. In the end, I couldn't bear to part with the MX-5 and kept scaring myself with the Elise, so the Elise went. Now, the idea l replacement has come along . . . the new MX-5! So, I phone up my local Mazda dealer and asked if I could pre-order one (or possibly the launch special edition). Said Mazda dealer said "phone back in a couple of months, we're not taking orders yet." Now, I can imagine phoning back in a couple of months and being greeted by "join the 6 month waiting list." Any ideas about the best way to go about ordering one and getting reasonably high up in the queue (if there is one)?

PS Of course, I'm still tempted by another Elise . . . .

Keep checking car broker websites like drivethedeal or carfile - you may even get a discount....

I heard 300 were coming in November. 200 for press and dealers, the remainder to members of the owners club. All these would be in the livery of the motor show model (red). The Yanks don't seem to expect them until next year.

I'm possible looking to replace my MX-5 (2.5) with one. I heard from my dealer that they won't take orders until November and don't expect to see it till 2006.

Best of luck, as for me, I'm going to wait a bit for the other people to resolve the inevitable teething issues.
