I'm a smug so and so who scored 10/10 but it was still an interesting quiz.

10/10

I can't believe that news item the other day whereby people didn't know the sign for ice or even side winds.

9/10 - I messed up the difference between no waiting and no parking.

9/10 ditto the no waiting / parking mixup

9/10 -- got the hand-signal wrong.

I was very tempted by the chnace to say that a box of hatched yellow lines was a disabled parking space: most of them seem to be used for something akin to parking.

Try this:

Gosh! the link has appeared!
Know your road signs - Ex-Moderator
as if by magic, a door appeared.........

But, as has been said, to put a link in you merely put all of the address as follows;

http://www.honestjohn.co.uk

and it magically becomes a clickable link.

Know your road signs - Imagos
Come on Dave which ones did you get wrong?

Must admit struggled with the hand signal left one, took a guess and got it right!
Know your road signs - Dynamic Dave
1. Beware - Side Winds. I said Beware - Airport Nearby.
2. Leave motorway by next exit. I said Merge to the left.
6. Opening or swing bridge ahead. I said Quayside or Riverbank.
10. Any of the above. I said Traffic queues ahead.
Know your road signs - mfarrow
Hooray! ...
6/10

... somebody with a realistic score. I can therefore reveal my 8/10 for:

- merging to the left instead of leaving the motorway.
- Waiting instead of parking. Or parking instead of waiting. You can tell it taught me a lot :-P

Know your road signs - keo-the-dog
9/10 never seen the explosive one before. though just thought that could be any petrol or gas car or any modern vehicle with airbags seatbelt tensioning bombs. etc. just a thought cant recall ever seeing the ice one either normally says ICE and they get stolen around here...cheers...keo
Know your road signs - Imagos
The only place i've seen the ice sign is on the A13 Pitsea flyover in Essex. and it actually says *ice* underneath.

Very unlikely i'd say that you'll see this sign without any words underneath.
Know your road signs - Altea Ego
When you need them they are never there, mostly flattened by drivers who didnt know what they meant when they needed to!
Know your road signs - Adam {P}
Agreed. There's one around here that's got "ICE" written underneath and is actually lit oddly enough. (No other lighting on the road)

or you approach a sign under the usual "!" that says "Trees Removed"

Now that IS a challenge.
Any answers?

Too late - the sign has now been removed but I have a photo to prove it existed.

There were two I used to use when I was teaching C.B.T.

Countdown markers with a red background.
And:
Like a pelican crossing but known as a Pegasus crossing.

Know your road signs - djcj
spot on! incidentaly, they're not 100 mtrs apart, but equally spaced to the crossing.

There is a set close to Hampton Court level crossing.
They have been there for many many years. I used to ask people who claimed to know their H/C what they were and never got the right answer.

Many moons ago on my driving test I was asked "What are guard rails?" Few seem to be able to answer that. I certainly did not.

The signs that regularly have been and still are ignored adorn the banks of the Thames in the Richmond area.
People just cannot imagine that the Thames is semi tidal there. Sadly the results do draw the crowds.
In the same area are the biggest sleeping policemen I have ever seen but they are to keep the river from flowing up selected roads.

8/10 - I got the exit motorway and explosives one wrong.

Anyway - if the sign was supposed to mean "no cars with exposives not allowed.." then shouldn't the sign have a diagonal line across it?
It appears (to me at least) that the sign seems to say "Car with explosives allowed"
Know your road signs - Chad.R
Sorry, that should've read ...

Know your road signs - Robin Reliant
Any class of vehicle displayed inside a red circle is prohibited, no line needed

Thats the one !! I used to include this because I was teaching CBT in cambridge and newmarket is just up the road!!

I Googled it to find out cos I did not recognise it.
I have seen the high level buttons I think at Ham near Richmond.

I cannot see it listed in the online Highway Code so I think it falls it to the category of so rare it is not asked on the test like the sign for minimum speed.
Know your road signs - Imagos
A bit of a trick question isn't it?

How is a type of crossing a road sign?

9/10 - Got caught by the explosives.
