high tech for traffic wardens - henry k
I am assuming Apr 01 is not here yet because I cannot find a web report on this anywhere obvious.

As seen on London TV. It would appear that traffic wardens in Westminster are to get some high tech help to "improve" things for all concerned.
A digital camera.
GPS to pin point where the ticket was issued.
Some software to check what restrictions apply at the time and the place where the ticket is being issued.

If it works it should offer some improvement over the present scene.

Will it hit the profits?

So you will need a gizmo and software to find out (as a driver) what the restrictions are? All these crooked companies will do is deface and remove signs.

Hmmmm

Digital cameras? Already done. Islington Council have a lovely piccy of one of my truck crew giving him the finger after a ticket.

GPS? lets see whats the average length of a bay, GPS accurate to say +/- 5 yards, ooooo wait, Its London, high buildings, poor view of sky missing a few sats, make that +/- 20 yards. Why that must be +/- 5 bays. Thats useful.

Software to check restrictions. Heloooooooooooo Its on a plate, the same plate the motorist has to read as well as the warden. It make not the slightest hoot what the council think is the restriction, its what the plates and marking say thats legal.

I suspect that the reason for this is to reduce the risk that wardens do not issue questionable tickets - appeals must cost the ticketing authorities a fortune, and they (probably) have to err on the side of caution and allow appeals, in the absence of any "scientific" evidence. I'm guessing they think this will strengthen their arm...
