Has anyone ever seen, bought or used the tailgate cycle rack as illustrated in the Citroen Berlingo Multispace brochure? Citroen UK helpline haven't nor have the many dealers I've rung. Is it permenant or clip on? Does it even exist?
|
I've got he same dilemma, considering a Berlingo to replace by moT failed BX. Four bikes on the roof are well within the 100kg weight limit, but not sure about height/centre of gravity (as well as need to carry a step stool for laoding.
Bit odd when the brochure describes it as a Citroen accessory and the dealers know nothing?. Looks to me like a strap on type, not permanent and would probably require a lighting board. CD Brammall in Northampton are my local dealer they're usually pretty good though service are hotter than sales.

It is here on the Cit uk website under accessories

Tailgate bicycle carrier £ 145.00

That link doesn't take you direct - go to Berlingo, then Multispace, then comfort and leisure, then page 2.
At £145 it ain't cheap - lots of similar from Witter, Decathlon, Halfords etc

Most of these are for towbar mounted carriers (which is what I was looking for)but they also do the tailgate ones.
I eventually bought a Witter one from Towequip which were cheapest and delivered in a couple of days.

I've never had any problem with my Halford's high-mount rack - as long as it's secured properly it seems to stay tight for 250 miles. I've only ever carried 2 bikes on it - it doesn't obscure lights or number plate and the tow-hitch is free to attach the trailer if neccessary.
Cheers, Sofa Spud

But don't forget, SS, that there are towball and towBAR mounted ones - the latter also leave the towball free to tow trailer/caravan.

HJ has the point entirely. Thats why its so frustrating to ring up the official parts helpline only for them to say they have received no training on, and have no knowledge of, their own official accessory as shown in their brochure and suggest I should contact the deler network. None of the six dealers I have spoken to have knowledge of the part, that was the reason for the post. With the aid of a magnifying glass I suspect its a clip on device but I was wondering what the £50 fitting charge quoted on the website could be. Assembly perhaps? Or are there some permanent rubber stops? Is it for the snake oil? Points to ponder so thanks for all the advice.

I've no idea about the Berlingo bike rack but a customer of mine has just purchased a roof rack and bicycle holder for his new Celica (and before you say anything yes it does look a right state!)
According to the fitting instructions it's an easy 10 minute job - according to the well experienced technician who fitted it it was a 2 hour nightmare of a job - needed to drop door seals to get the rack to fit properly.
