Seems I am in good company among BRs - so, fellow over 60s, come on, reveal: what car do you drive? Kicking things off, I (aged 62) am constantly rejuvenated by my A3 Tdi 130 quattro.
PS I retired 2 years ago, but 3 months later returned to work and still get a buzz from it - as from the car!

pensioners' corner - commerdriver
AT last a thread that I'm too young to join.
Or is there a waiting list I should get my name on now?

Ssshhhh --- don't disturb their afternoon nap or they'll be choking on their Werthers.

Driving cars! Have you seen how they handle a Sainsbury's shopping trolley!
pensioners' corner - buzbee
Anyone know where I can buy a GT lawn-mower/
pensioners' corner - patently
No, we said Sainsburys. SAINSBURYS. Where we go shopping. SHOPPING. For food. FOOD. TO EAT. Yes, there.

Another tea? Tea. TEA. TEA Oh for heavens sake.

[/tic!]

No, we said Sainsburys. SAINSBURYS. Where we go shopping.
SHOPPING.

Only posh pensioners can afford Sainsbury's!

Pardon?

Ditto except the car is a 320d with most of the factory options and a retrofit Sat Nav.
128 mph is probably quick enough for an oldie (checked out between Stuttgart and Munich) and the suspension is not tooth-looseningly hard. I note the new E90 320d (just launched) is good for 140 mph.
Must rush, nearly time for Countdown.

hmmm.. rear wheel drive, bit dodgy for wrinklies to handle.
hey, do you get the impression the younger elements here aren't taking us too seriously?
I demand respect!

That Fixodent is good stuff......

Take no notice of these whippersnappers El Hacko. A little envy, although understandable after Uncle Gordens budget yesterday when he was attempting to seduce the Grey Wolf Brigade with free bus passes and council tax discounts.
He didn?t go far enough though and could have included dedicated road lanes for the pensioners and perhaps even gone further with free road tax. However beware of Scotsmen bearing gifts?
I retired at 58 and must say the thought of returning to work has never entered my head. I often say I tried work for 43 years and decided it wasn?t for me?
I?m 67 later this year and drive a Vectra Tdi which I believe is a pretty good car and the only niggle would be the funny shaped mirrors although the drivers side has a split section with the outer giving a wider view which is useful but probably common on other cars. A far cry from cars of yesteryear when it was almost essential to be able to decoke a cylinder head on a Saturday morning.
I still enjoy driving but with the congestion nowadays it?s a world apart from when I first began. I still remember after the war when cars were only obtainable with a long waiting list and my Uncle finally receiving his long ordered Wolsey (I think). He visited the family and took us all for a ride into the country with the obligatory picnic hamper as if we were Royalty.

We drive into Spain / Portugal every year and those lovely traffic free roads brings back the long remembered joys of motoring.
Cars are better than ever before but unfortunately roads haven?t kept up with them and if I had a choice between having the old A35s and Moggies with open roads as against todays supercars I know which I would go for??.Must go ! the nurse is coming?.

I think I just drove home behind one of you...

Honda Jazz....superb.

....now, where did I put my flat cap? :0)
pensioners' corner - THe Growler
I'm with Alvin. Collect HMG's munificence (not index-linked by the way here in The Colonies) in August. I got so bored with work at 59 I had a party to burn all my suits and ties and left the building. But I still love to drive and (especially) ride.

Helps to have a lovely female partner of 31 who is also a biker .......will post on this subject shortly.

Now then, what was her name again.....?

pensioners' corner - El Hacko
now there's a delicious thought, Growler - a nurse of 31 could add another buzz for me
pensioners' corner - L'escargot
Currently 66 driving a 2 litre Focus. If ever I have to resort to driving a motorised buggy I'm going to seek advice from Frank Williams ~ I bet his shifts! (Not meant to be a joke at Frank's expense.)

L\'escargot by name, but not by nature.

Retired six years ago at the age of 56 and most certainly have no intentions of returning to the dog-eat-dog world of modern commerce.

That does`nt mean that I sit around all day and become a couch potato, in fact I don`t know how I found the time to work.!!!!

I have a self catering holiday bungalow that needs constant decorating and renovating and 0.5 acres of garden to keep me occupied and when I have caught up the chores, I get out for a decent walk, - now back to the same weight as I was at 30 years old and feel vastly fitter for it.

Having driven over a million miles during my working lifetime, I now keep the mileage down to approx 7k per year, and though I drive an "ultimate driving machine" in the shape of a 320d SE Touring, have no intention of reverting to my 40/50k miles per annum.

I thought that was what lane 1 of the motorway was for?

Seriously, though, can't wait for the chance to stop working. Only 30 years to go..... :-(

Retired last year at 64, despite offer of another contract to work in Kuwait (there's not much competition from the younger generations in the construction industry).
Agree with "alvin's" comments regarding driving in Spain - like motoring in UK in the '70's - so much so that I now live there.
Have a 320td (that's a Compact - await insults!).
