What are these like for servicing costs, cambelt etc. and which spec / engine size are best?
Zafira - bikemade3
Been quoted £99.95 for the first year service due at 1 year/20k whichever is sooner. Mine will be done at 1 year/8K. Belt change not a problem as its got a chain so not a cost to factor in.
Thoroghly recommend 2.0DTI many others don't, as many reported issues with oil usage mine hasn,t used any to date.
Avoid the 1.6 it's gutless and the 2.0 Turbo drinks fuel if pushed. That leaves the 1.8 or 2.0 DTI

Depends on which engine. Only the diesel and 2.2 petrol engine have a chain, IIRC.

As with all Vauxhalls, cambelt change every 40,000 miles, or 4 yrs - whichever comes sooner.

DD,
Sorry about that i was speaking about my 2.0DTI and it has as such a chain.

I was speaking about my Diesel, which has a chain. However did anyone read this Saturdays HJ question ref the 2.2 Zafira that suffered a broken/ jumped chain due to failure of the chain tensioner. It implied IIRC that extended service intervals had lead to blockage of the oilway.

Vauxhall were *supposed* to have cured the oilway problem.

When I took my previous VectraB (X-Reg, 2.2 engine) in for a service, they said that mine had already had the modification done because of the problems that were occuring. That was some 18 months ago.

The GSi (2.0 Turbo) is by far and away the best to drive. None of the others gets anywhere near it. May be heavier on fuel, mine costs about 13 a mile in fuel costs over 9,000 but IMHO worth every penny. The 1.6 and 2.0DTi are too lethargic, the 1.8 significantly better, the 2.2 better again.

If you are looking at reasonable miles from new I would buy a VX complete motoring plan. Costing me £1,300 over 4 years but covers all servicing, repair and warranty work to 100,000 miles. Only seems to exclude body work, tyres and exhaust. When you work out the costs its pretty good value, and transferable.

If you want a new one the new model comes out in July so may be worth waiting.

Would think that this would depend on your mileage? If you are doing £25k a year, then you may be getting car serviced twice a year so £325 a year in costs would maybe be about right. However, to pay that annually when, depending on age of car, most warranty type work should be covered anyway seems a bit on the high side I would think?

My Scenic has 18000 mile services and IIRC it comes in at about £150 or so.

Sorry the cost is mileage/years dependant. My £1300 will cover:

1. Five 20k services (5*£150)
2. All other advisory work so 2 cambelt changes (2*£200), brake fluid, antifreeze, pollen filetrs etc etc
3. All routine replacements, so brake pad and discs, windscreen wipers etc etc (not tyres, exhausts or body work.
4. Extends the warranty from 3 yrs, 60k to 4 yrs 100k

Overall I think it is pretty good value.

No I cant do mechanical/electrical work myself, (ask the local A&E!!). Garage owners pay me to do work for them and I pay them to do a job for me. Simple and keeps me out of harms way.
