New VW Golf Plus - Sofa Spud
I like the look of the forthgcoming VW Golf Plus, which is a slightly taller version of the Mark 5, sort of roughly Peugeot 307 shaped. Truly a niche model if ever there was one, it sits between the Golf and Touran.

I wonder what the thinking behind introducing TWO new Golf hatches, so similar except one is 4 ins taller than the other, is. Although the two Golfs resemble each other superficially the body panels are totally different. Are VW trying to hedge their bets over the future of hatchback design, testing the water to see which way to go with the Mark 6 Golf?

Do they cost the same? Or is there a premium for the extra 4"?

If they were testing the market, one would assume that they would have to cost more or less the same.

Ford seem to be able to sell Fusions, so i guess that there's a market for slightly taller hatchbacks.

of course it'll cost more - it's a VW!

The golf plus looks more like a C-Max, whereas the Touran is a zafira competitor. Looks like VW want to cover the whole market from hatch to small seven seater.

About £500-£600 more than the standard Golf of equal spec. I wonder if VW are now working on niche model to sit between the Golf and Golf Plus.

Is there going to be an estate variant of the Golf Mk 5? If so I wonder if it will be based on the Golf or Golf Plus. The latter would make more sense.

I think VW are doing a Fusion. In a few years the Golf pkus will have disapeared without trace.
