It's that time of year (nearly) again when the Formula one circus rolls into town. Love it or hate it you can't ignore it.

What's everyone hopes, expectations, opinions??

Mine is forget all the pre season chit chat, Schumacher will struggle, Button will win a race (five seasons we've been waiting, Jenson!) and Montoya will win nothing (hopefully).

Its funny how it all changes when the red lights go out for the start of the first race, isn't it?
I hope Michael, Ruebens and Ferrari do well. I know that Ferrari bashing is a regular sport, but they work for what they get and I think we should enjoy the results. The whole team gells, as a team, and it is nice to see. It would be nice, however, to see Michael have to wring the car's neck to stay competitive.
Jensen, yes please, some wins this year. The BAR is getting better.
Montoya hasn't really shone, yet, and I don't think changing teams will help. He can drive fast, but, a bit like Coultard,(Kryten in Red Dwarf?) he can't seem to race effectivly.
I think williams and Mclaren will need to bed in for a few races, new drivers etc. With a bit of luck it will be a closer season than last year.
I hope to see some closer racing, but deep down, I suppose, I hope to see Ferrari at the top of the tree again.

Not a great fan of Formula 1....bit of a procession half the time.

I think they should liven it up with some radical new rules....a bit like its a knockout and weakest link meets whacky races. How about all the drivers are allowed to press a button in the car's cockpit once in a race that has the effect of decreasing the performance of there chosen victims car by 30% for 5 seconds. This would allow overtaking and really liven things up.

My slightly more radical rule change would be for all drivers to nominate another driver in the race. The most popular nomination would be allowed to carry one sidewinder missile containing paint to use at any point in the race. The thought of Schumacher trying to outrun a missile in a race would certainly have me glued to my chair.

Off now to take some more tablets.

A win for JB would certainly add some interest, it's been a long time since we could take it for granted that at least one Brit would be challenging for the title. How come we can't compete anymore when there is always a brazilian or two in the running, they're not exactly from the hotbed of all things automotive. Same in the bikes, everyone gets excited now if one of ours finishes higher than 12th.

Be interesting to see the effect of the new rule changes -designed to slow the cars down by about 3secs a lap-, 30% less downforce and the same tyres for race and qualifying. Apparantly in pre season testing, the cars have been going just as fast or even faster than last year.

Sorry.

To put it in laymans terms, IMHO opinion F1 is championship run for the benefit of a few key people who make masses of money out of the sport.

The racing experience is poor and totally eclipsed by other forms of motorsport and in particular Moto GP motorbike racing. Watch Moto GP and you will see the meaning of exciting racing, constant overtaking, bikes on the edge all the time and some real characters.

F1 will be increasingly irritating to watch also as the emphasis shifts to the far east where cigarette advertising bans do not apply.

Frankly an over-hyped and under achieving version of the sport.

Nothing comes close for drama, intrigue, bickering, glamour, and big boys toys.

Glad silversone was sorted out, I was going to boycot it.

My prediction? Button will flop this year. David Richards (the most talented team principle) has left, the engine is blowing up, and Honda couldnt organise a thing in a brewery.

I'm a bike fan and I'll agree that two wheeled racing is often more exciting than cars (though not when Doohan was cruising round half a lap ahead of everyone else, or when Rossi does the same thing), but what all other motorsports lack is the sheer speed of F1. Nothing can lap a circuit as fast as an F1 car despite the constant efforts of the ruling body to slow them down, and the cutting edge technology involved adds to the interest for many.

F1 has been going through a period where an exceptional driver in an exceptional car has proved unbeatable, but that happens in all individual sports from time to time. Borg could have been said to make tennis boring, Steve Davis ditto with snooker, Armstrong in the Tour de France, Coe and Ovett in athletics unless you were British, and there are many more examples. F1 has many times in the past been closely contested and unpredictable, and sooner rather later it will happen again. My guess is this season will see a return to a more level playing field as Shumacker ages and the other teams catch up with ferrari.
