We were told that, in my corner of SE Essex, there would be overnight freezing and several centimetres (what they?) of snow to contend with this morning.

In fact, there was no snow but a light rain drizzle and the bird-bath showed not a trace of ice in it.

Two mornings running I have been out in the garden at 8:30 am building snowmen in heavily falling snow with a couple of centimetres on the ground acoompanied by an ecstatic 3 year old and excited dogs.

Its also been damnably cold.

Yup, I'd say that got it about right.

To keep it Motoring though, the roads were fine - that's the M40, of course, but also the smaller country roas around me were clear and well gritted/salted/whatever.

Mark.

p.s. I'm a bit north of Oxford.

2003 and 2004 had severe snow falls late January/early February which caused traffic chaos.

I saw the weather forecast for today and remembering an epic 13 hour journey in 2003, decided to postpone an East anglian sortie.

I suspect this is precisely the met office's intention and I can't say I blame them.

"To keep it Motoring though"

Quite so, Mark. My original text also contained a para about the red triangles and traffic advice in the forecasts, unfortunately, it got lost during a line drop incident.

btw, it is still raining here without a trace of snow in it.

Forecast an inch of snow for Guildford last night plus blizzard today (Thursday). Didn't happen. Has now cleared up and warmed up.

Good point: GBC salted my small side road (never happened before to my recollection).

Bad point. My car was parked in the road at the time and is now CAKED in salt.

It has snowed all day without stopping in the Peak District. The temperature is too high for it to stay on the road though. Enough snow in the garden for as many snowmen as Mark would care to build.

The odd few flakes out here in Pembs, but nothing has settled apart from a light dusting last night which had gone by morning. Forecast dry for tomorrow, but it has been really cold. Had to move the blower round to position 2 on the way home tonight.

Cambridgeshire were promised a 10 cm blanket, even on lower ground; but got nothing but drizzle, damp and mud.

Well they have been threatening severe weather all week. I have been all over the country all week. Last two days I have been in Norfolk, Lincs and the East Midlands and altho it snowed a bit it was nowhere near as bad as predicted.

Soooooooooo much salt on the road tho, the car looks like its been setting speed records at bonneville.
