My other half's 51 reg Corsa SXI has developed a clucking noise when turning left to right, like a worn steering rack. These are Electric power steering aren't they and the EPS light goes out when it is started up. I have heard the steering might be a known issue with These, the car has just come out of warranty in November. Please can somebody give me some pointers on what it could be
Thanks

No reply, does this mean it is just a one off problem?

Even though the car has electric pas ,the rest of the steering system is conventional with a steering rack &track rod ends etc.Could be wear in one of the joints.
|
Track rod end would be a fair guess.Though not conclusive..Would be surprised if track rod problem at that age.Though not unknown..Get it checked out. should not be hard to find the problem Ie rack or track rod ends.May also be flexi joint between the two from S/column to rack.. Just a thought but check it out with the experts.

I have a 2001 Corsa 1.0 that has notchy steering when turning right. The steering feels like quite a lot of resistance needs to be overcome to turn the wheels even the very slightest amount. Is this a symptom of similar problems? Any suggestions as to what I should look at? It has been like this for a while with no sign of deterioration.

Hi, I have a 03 corsa and had a knocking noise intially from the suspension (drivers side) from about 5000 miles, vauxhall said it was me, nothing wrong, at 9000 miles unbearable noise, "oh u need a new steering rack sir", had that done (along with broken engine mount!?) then I had it serviced last week, mention a slight noise from susp, and guess what! "oh u need a new steering rack sir", now luckily these are both under warranty, but at 34K, 2 racks knackered, what the deleted - what part of the NO SWEARING rule don't you understand? DD

this week a friend had new steering rack for a 3 year old corsac cost 640 at main dealer. mounting bolts had sheard, probaly due to too many speed humps. he had had wheels tracked and balanced, but the car still feelt loose.

It's a very common fault with Corsa C's, if your vehicle is coming up to the end of it's 3 year warranty, get to your nearest Vauxhall dealer and ask them to check your steering, even say you can hear/feel a problem!! It will be an expensive 1st MOT otherwise!!
