Alfa 156 Headlight bulbs - rickla13
Is it just me, or are the headlight bulbs in Alfa 156s almost impossible to change?

I just managed (or, rather my wife managed - with her smaller hands!) to change the passenger side sidelights bulb, but neither she nor I can manage the dipped beam headlight bulb on the same side.

The manual has a very nice diagram to show what to do, but it seems impossible to actually do it?!

The driver's side does not seem as bad, as there is more room.

Any hints or tips?

Thanks & regards

Rick

Umm, done about 5 headlamps & 1 sidelight in my JTD.
N/S is by far the worst as battery and various other bits in the way. Not sure if yours is Diesel or petrol but their is a plastic cover over the induction trunk just behind the headlight, remove this, 2 self tappers and that gives a fraction more room. Small hands help which I have. Also make sure if its a headlight bulb it goes in right way up, don't laugh its such a struggle its quite easy! It gets easier with practise....
The N/S sidelamp bulb is by far the hardest, took 40 minutes of swearing! Also the sidelamp bulb was a fiver! even Accessory shop was surprised. And before anyone says "Its an Alfa what do you expect" at least the bulbs can be changed at home, some cars need dismantling, like bumpers off etc.
PS went through a saga of bulb warning light on the panel coming on then going off, it turned out to be the numberplate light Swopped both bulbs & tightened contacts fixed....

Many thanks - I did not take that cover off - will try that now. Is it a petrol (2 litre), and although I have only ever had 3 bulbs go - they have always been on the N/S!

Yup, my tally is 3 N/S & 2 O/S with one N/S sidelight!
