Maybe they've all sold...
|
I saw that..unbelievable.

My local MG-Rover dealer has sold 4 cars this month and is only a few miles from Longbridge, if they can't sell them round here they won't be able to anywhere.
|
He has done well to sell 4 cars this month with us just a couple of weeks to go before the new registration. I you go to virgincars.co.uk you can get a £7396 discount for a 05 - 54 reg 75 Tourer Diesel Conno.SE. With this sort of discount how could a dealer compete anyway?
At this sort of discount it would be worth considering if you will only own the car for 1-2 years as this is the biggest depreciation area. After that, with Rover's financial security I would steer well clear........

Big ad in my morning newspaper for 04 spec 75s (1.8 Conno) from £9,999.
Some of Rover's problems in the 1990s, apart from the fact that it needed fresh models, arose because it was pricing its new cars at a level that would have bought the class above from another marque, for instance Mondeo money for an Escort/Focus sized model.
The majority of private car buyers wouldn't bite.

Unfortunately, all this discounting has utterly destroyed the already shaky residuals of MG-Rover. I bought mine expecting to lose money. I didn't think I'd have to give the car away. I still really like the car, it's been utterly faultless, but the companies marketing strategy doesn't inspire customer loyalty.

Seems it has got to the stage where it's only worth buying a Rover (cos prices have been talked/forced down so much) if you intend to keep it a long time and, thus, have no worries about falling values. Wait a few more weeks and Rovers will become really good value!

I quite agree, I remember going to look at a Rover 214 (would that be right in 1994/5?), taking a test drive in it and saying to the salesman that it was OK, but not worth the £12k, or thereabouts, that they wanted for it. It takes some believing that they were asking that kind of money for one, over 10 years ago.
