Renault - Additional Key Cost - jjuggle
I've just bought a Renault Laguna, it's only got one key and I'd like a spare. Renault dealer has quoted £140 for key and coding. Is this the norm or is there a cheaper way?
Thanks

We had a Scenic and were quoted £70 for a new fob battery "because the key would need re-coding once the battery was fitted".
Suspect the £140 for the entire key may be correct. Out of interest is this the latest model keycard?

70 pounds is the cost at Renault for a new complete body part (and recoding if you haggle)

The key is sold in two parts, body and key.

Goona 2 keycards are about 140 quid coded. Beware do not buy second hand keycards - they cant be coded they need to be blank coded.

I'll re-iterate my old point, because it applies to keys too:

Funny how all these 'fantastic new developments' always result in the price of a consumable / wear part increasing ten-fold...

And for heaven's sake, it's a piece of plastic, a battery, an integrated circuit and an IR sender. How can it possibly cost £140??!!!

Even more ridiculous in this particular case.

Of course we did n't replace the battery for the Scenic. Just handed the good key and the dud to the dealer when we traded the car in.
Shows how important it is to check both keys when buying second hand.

There is an UK website that offers this service. Been mentioned here before - remember it anyone ?

No, it's a P reg, "plip" key. The dealer has said £100 for key then £40 for coding. I get nervous driving with one key - bound to lose it!
