1998 1200 Clio.
Clutch cable went stiff and then snapped. Replaced cable and it was fine for 3 months, then stiffened up and eventually broke.
Fitted new cable last weekend - all smooth and lovely - today it has started to stiffen up.
Any ideas please?

When the clutch cable goes bang it sometimes take the tensioner with it (on the pedal assembly) plus there have been frequent design changes to the tensioner.
Is the clutch bite point changing?
|
Tensioner is fine and the bite point has remained the same. The cable route is nice and easy with no sharp bends. The cable broke in the same place on both occasions on the bend which takes the cable up to the floor.

Cables usualy fray before they break.Reason why they go stiff beforehand.Probably a faulty cable?.

Reminds me of when I had a Renault 9. The AA man who replaced clutch cable number 3 said he had become expert at Renault clutch cables. Mind you, it had done about 40,000 miles. It was totally clapped by 45,000.
